Reading along with us in Isaiah? Here’s today’s reading:
Isaiah 19 (NIV)
A Prophecy Against Egypt
1 A prophecy against Egypt:
See, the Lord rides on a swift cloud
and is coming to Egypt.
The idols of Egypt tremble before him,
and the hearts of the Egyptians melt with fear.
2“I will stir up Egyptian against Egyptian—
brother will fight against brother,
neighbor against neighbor,
city against city,
Sometimes we need to be reminded that God is in control of ALL things and everything we have comes from God. The Egyptian’s lifeblood was the Nile river and God will show them that He is in control of that river and what happens with it.
God knows our hearts and knows that man can take things for granted when things are coming too easy. It is when we are broken and reminded how much we need God that we will return to Him and that is just what He will to remind the Egyptians but the beauty of His love and mercy are always there for us even through our disobedience and necessary judgement….He remains faithful to His people!
Sometimes we have to fall and get broken first to be healed and saved by God.
Isaiah 19
Great judgement and salvation is declared about Egypt in this passage. The Nile was Egypt’s lifeblood and so God will show Himself mighty to them by drying it up and taking away all the blessings that flow from it. This will humble Egypt and cause trouble in their hearts. But God will use this to reveal Himself and draw them to Him. What expressions of blessing and devotion are expressed here. A great connection between Judah and Egypt as well as Assyria. The faith, worship and praise of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob expressed in this land of Pharaoh and the worship of false gods. Only God could accomplish such thing. On some level this has been fulfilled in Christianity, but I believe it’s ultimate fulfillment awaits the millennial reign of Christ.
Isaiah 19
The river of Egypt and therefore the land there will become useless and the people will mourn. They will cry out to the Lord and He will save them. They will be allies with Assyria and Israel.
