  1. Hosea had a rough call out of the gate to marry a prostitute and have children bearing names of the horrible state of relationship God’s people were in with Him. Hosea’s life in essence was painful almost simulating where God must have been with Israel at this point.
Hosea was obedient though and did each thing God asked of him.

  2. After looking up Hosea, I discovered:
“ God uses the story of Hosea and Gomer’s marriage to show that God’s people have done the same to Him: ”
Now it makes more sense to me.

  3. God does at times call His people to do strange and sacrificial things, and here in Hosea, for the instruction of His people. Hosea’s life will be a sermon illustration for the disobedience and unfaithfulness of the people of Israel and Judah. It is interesting that Hosea ministered to both the Northern and southern nation and he was a contemporary of Isaiah. As he is called to marry a loose woman, and suffer the unfaithfulness that would come from her, he would experience on a human level what God experienced with regards to the defiance of the Jews. He would be able to speak more directly to what God was looking for as well as more passionately call the people back to faithfulness to Him.
