Hebrews 8 (NIV)

The High Priest of a New Covenant
1 Now the main point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, 2 and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by a mere human being.........Continue Reading

  1. God’s new covenant with us comes through Him not through a man. Jesus was the sacrifice and paid the debt that God knows we could never pay. We could never be righteous on our own! The blood of Jesus makes us perfect under this new covenant!

  2. Now we see the superiority of the sanctuary in which Jesus sits. The tabernacle and temple were only ever shadows of the throne room in heaven. A dim representation of the perfection of that which it was modeled after.

  3. How neat to think the reason all the detail is given in the Torah about the building of the tabernacle was because the earthly one was just a symbol of the true one in heaven. But it makes perfect sense knowing God’s brilliant and loving plan to sacrifice His Son, that He would establish a temporary picture of what the permanent would look like so we would get the point of what was necessary to make us right before God. And how wonderful that God took what was temporary and imperfect and made it permanent and perfect through His Son. The disobedience of man would not stop God’s plan to save him. What a gracious God He is. He has established a better covenant through His Son and through His Spirit. How beautiful it is to see how the plan unfolded and how privileged we are to be part of it!

  4. Jesus sits at the right hand in the real sanctuary in heaven, the sanctuary that the earthy tabernacle was modeled after. The new covenant has made the old one obsolete.

  5. The sanctuary laid out by God to Moses is a shadow or copy of the one that is in heaven, that is something to think about! God establishes the new covenant through Jesus to replace the old one. This one is much better, God says “I will put their laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will forgive their wickedness and remember their sins no more.” Our sins are forgiven and forgotten, praise God for the new covenant he made for us through Jesus Christ!

  6. 10This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel
after that time, declares the Lord.
I will put my laws in their minds
and write them on their hearts.
    I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
11No longer will they teach their neighbor,
or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
12For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.”
