Hebrews 4 (NIV)

A Sabbath-Rest for the People of God
1 Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. 2 For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed.……Continue Reading

  1. What a comfort to know we have a God who desires rest for us…rest for our bodies as well as rest for our souls. But we must remain in fellowship with Him in order to enter that rest, acting in faith and obedience, unlike the Jews who disobeyed and therefore did not enter His rest. We will either strive to establish our own rest or embrace the rest that God gives. In that rest, we trust in God’s provisions and power which allows us to rest in them. But we also have tools that we access to help us believe, obey and have that rest and those are the Word of God and prayer. God works through those to bring us HIs peace and transform us from within. How blessed we are to have personal access to Him. He sympathizes with our weaknesses but also seeks to empower us to overcome them. That is the one, two punch of mercy and grace to help us in our time of need.

  2. “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
I have been thinking lately about how much quicker I am to pray in a time of trouble than to pick up His word. Like a comfortable relationship, I want to just talk to Him. But this verse reminded me that His Word is also a way He speaks to me. I appreciate my time in His word and I am in such a better place when I read it daily and that is because it is that extension of Him communicating with me!

  3. Both groups of people heard the same message, but the ones who did not have faith did not enter into God’s rest. So today if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts. For now is the time to become a believer, do not hesitate for a single minute. Be in God’s word, it’s alive and active, it’s sharper than the sharpest knife cutting through all the noise and distraction that keeps us from our Creator. Trust it, follow it and live by it. Approach God in prayer with confidence, it is there that we find mercy, grace and the help that we need to make it through each day.

  4. For Gods word is active and living.
watching Jelly Roll‘s testimony this morning on the news at the Grammys. he held up a little Bible. He said he was in a 6 x 8 cell in a very dark place, not wanting to live. that little tiny Bible completely changed his life. The word of God is life-changing. Powerful!! Hebrews 4:13. Is a sobering verse for all of us whenever someone tries to scam me on the Internet my answer is always read. Hebrews 4:13. Actually, had one person come back to me and asked for forgiveness

  5. “There remains therefore a rest for the people of God.”
    ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4‬:‭9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”
    ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4‬:‭12‬-‭13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
I was thinking of the qualities of the word of God above and thinking that it can be painful, to believer and unbeliever alike. For the believer, it is a “good pain”, like conviction of sin, or pain leading to growth and maturity. For the unbeliever, hopefully conviction and conversion. But for some, the pain leads to rejection and rebellion against God.
