Haggai 2 (NIV)

1 on the twenty-first day of the seventh month, the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai: 2“Speak to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, to Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people. Ask them, 3‘Who of you is left who saw this house in its former glory? …..Continue Reading

  1. God is reminding the people of Israel that He covenanted with them when they came out of Egypt and that His spirit remaineth with them. He is reminding them that He has allowed and brought about trials to bring them back to Him. He is promising them that they will be blessed if they follow and trust Him. They are to rely and draw their strength from Him. Some of this prophecy is for their time and some for the end times. In verse 9 God says through Haggai that the glory of this latter house will be greater than of the former. This is end times for the temple will again be built with all God`s glory for He will indwell there. The present is also here for God commands the temple to be built by Zerubbabel so the people would start being blessed again. This is often true with prophets sometimes it is for the near future and sometimes it is for the end times. Every Word of God is true for He doesn`t lie. Every day that comes we are closer to the rapture of the church and the Second Coming of Christ. Are we ready brothers and sisters/ God bless us as we walk with Him.

  2. The people became discouraged while building God’s house thinking it was not elaborate or as magnificent as the former. God encourages them saying the glory of this temple will be greater.
We are so easily distracted and focused on ourselves and our feelings. We need God, His word, and fellowship for encouragement, direction, and clarity.

  3. So true Renee! Even when we are doing something seemingly for God we easily get caught up in our own thoughts, expectations, and ideas instead of trusting God. God is reminding them here that He is with them and they need not worry about the things He will take care of and when we stay fixed on God our heart should only want what He wants and in all things He would get the glory,

  4. God is always ready with encouragement when our efforts falter and He builds us up to carry on. It is also true that we cannot look at past glories and measure present work by them. If God wills it, then it is glorious enough in every season of life and ministry because God can fill it with His presence and power. God is also ready with correction when it is needed and it is always good to be circumspect about our lives discerning whether God is showing His favor or His disfavor on us. He always has our best in mind and both encouragement and discipline come from His love for us. And he seeks to turn all of it into a blessing for us. God also backs leaders and wants to assure them of His presence with them and the place and position He has for them.

  5. For thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land; 7 and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,’ says the Lord of hosts.
