  1. Some interesting things to research in this chapter…but one thing that is not difficult to understand is verse 5…”The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”

It can be difficult to not see this same situation in the world today, and indeed, without Christ, that is exactly what we see. So, what is the remedy? Christ. Look to Christ. Follow Christ. Build your life in such a way that rather than being bombarded with a world whose thoughts are “only evil continually”, build your Fortress of Freedom…Freedom that is found in Christ, Freedom that is sustained by the peace that only Christ can give.

Philippians 4:6-7 “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prater and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

I know that my heart needs to be guarded by the peace of God which is found in Christ Jesus. May God guard and protect us all in Him as we walk in obedience to Him…for it is when we follow the example of Jesus that we will experience God’s peace in our lives.

  2. Genesis 7.

Pretty scary picture of Gods plan saying he is going to wipe out the human race including the wildlife. Even as the all powerful God of the universe we also see a God of mercy, making a covenant with Noah because of his strong faith and loyalty. This chapter passage so much about God as it does the construction of the Ark.

  3. “But Noah found grace….”
In a world turned upside down, sin beyond the tolerance of the Lord God Almighty, one man lives righteously.

Pushing obvious historic details aside, I see a theme where Godly unite to the ungodly, and in child bearing, rearing a society even more corrupt than the evil half as though pouring gasoline on fire. We are advised not to be unequally yoked, however that may apply, and we cannot serve the table of the Lord God and the table of devils. (either at the same time, or alternately, as we may excuse our weakness for sin).

Christianity is not a dual-life of sin and righteousness, Jesus does not condone, nor will bless this posture. We are to live righteous with Christ in us, every day, every moment. Romans 6 provides the antidote for this deception.

Noah, and we at LHCC, found grace in the eyes of God. If I seem harsh previously, I am critical of myself, part being told I am just a dirty sinner saved by grace that just can’t help it, and part not believing I have all the power in Jesus I need to reject evil, and accept the good.

God purged the world of any thought of evil outside of eight souls who were saved. That extreme (beyond comprehension) wickedness was killed. But what they experienced, saw, heard, endured within that society cannot be forgotten. They bore the same fallen nature of Adam after the flood.

Noah found saving grace, that is our story too, despite how wicked the world is around us. -gy

BTW: angels and humans cannot procreate, can’t blame the flood on anything other than sinful men and women.

    1. Thanks for all your comments, Gordon…really appreciate your participation! Your refutation of the “dual life” concept is spot on. I heard a helpful illustration of the Christian’s condition…we are new creations in Christ, we know this is true and confirmed by The Word. But we are born again by the Spirit…and while we finish our allotted time here on earth, we find ourselves incarcerated within our sinful flesh. But we must wage war against that flesh, daily…hourly…if we wish to experience all that our spiritual rebirth has enabled us to experience. While we may be wrapped in sinful flesh, we are NOT in bondage to that flesh! Let us not be paupers within the kingdom of God’s abounding grace…let us pursue ALL that Christ has won for us. Let us be who we are, because of Christ, through Christ, and IN Christ!

  4. Mankind has become so corrupt and wicked that God has decided to send a worldwide flood to destroy all living creatures on the earth. God is grieved over what mankind has become. Man left to himself will only self destruct for his thoughts are evil. Without God this is what happens. But God is all knowing and wasn`t surprised about any of it. He knew what man was but also gave him free will to walk with God or walk in evil. God had already planned for the Son of God { Jesus} to die on the cross for our sins and rise again three days latter. Gen. 3:15 Just because God knew this doesn`t take away His grief for mankind. So God calls Noah for he is a just, and perfect man walking with God even among the evil that was around him and his family. That must had been so hard for him and his family. It says in scripture that Noah was 500 years old when Shem, Ham, and Japheth were born. Gen. 5:32 and 600 years old when the flood came. This would mean that they were 100 yeas old when the flood came. Noah may have had help in building Noah`s Ark besides his wife and their 3 sons and their wives. It looks like Noah`s father and grandfather may have died just before the flood came. Perhaps others that didn`t believe but were getting paid to work. We don`t know. We only know that Noah built it according to God`s plan and directions. It was estimated that it was 512 ft long; 85 ft wide; and 51 ft high. According to the Ark Encounter. God sent all the creatures to the ark that He wanted on board. Gen. 6: 20b { two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.} Noah didn`t go out and get the creatures. They came to him. Yes including dinosaurs. Each of their kind as the Bible says. Probably young ones of every kind which means they were small and didn`t eat as much or take as much room. They would live longer and reproduce more. The water creatures wouldn`t need to be on the ark. So no fishes, sea monsters, etc. And yes there would had been plenty of room on the ark for the land creatures. Even including insects. I just wish that people would stop teaching our children that Noah`s ark is a little boat that couldn`t possibly hold these creatures. This is one of the reasons that our young people leave the church. They think that these stories are fairy tails and are just myths. So if the Bible is wrong here; how can they believe any of the Bible. We as the body of Christ need to teach our children correctly. They need to be critical thinkers. Not blindly believing what the world teaches them. For all men lie even our public school systems, our children`s T.V. shows, etc. You can see that I am very concerned about our children or in my case grandchildren. The word dinosaur was invented in 1841. In the Bible sea monsters, dinosaurs, and winged raptors were called Dragons. These dragons were not myths for all over the world we have written accounts of people battling dragons. Not just written accounts but drawings and statues. And they didn`t exist millions of years ago but thousands of years. Some as recently as a hundred years ago. This is based on facts and evidence. There is so much more I could say but I stop here. God bless all who walk in the truth.

  5. Sean, truly spoken, there is a peace in Christ, few find it, though it is ever present with us, and those who do, find freedom beyond comprehension! Thx for your open thoughts -gy

  6. As it was in the days of Noah. So it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. People eating and drinking and marrying

  7. OK explain this to me again , chapter 6 verse two , the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful and they married any of them they chose. who are the sons of God? what are they talking about?

  8. It is interesting, many seem to link the verses about the Sons of God marrying the daughters of men, and the giants with the verses about God limiting the age of man and then vs. 5 about the wickedness of man. But there doesn’t seem to be any judgement indicated on the Angels marrying women or on the giants (they are mighty). Are the giants the spawn of angels and men? That is not clear. I only see that God judges man for being wicked, continually…..not Sons of men or giants. Are these sons of men fallen angels?

  9. Ok, since so many have asked, there are 2 primary positions on the sons of God: they were angels (some say fallen, others say elect) or they were the line of Seth and the daughters of men were the line of Cain. Personally I believe they were angels, and at times they do appear as men, but I understand how it is hard to grasp how they would copulate with women. But it also does explain who the Nephillim are: men of larger stature and strength because of the angelic parts of their being. And I believe it is the book of Jude that talks about angels that sinned and they are locked in a special place of punishment for defying God’s order. The word used for hell is taturus, a unique word for hell unlike the more common hades and Gehenna. People that hold that position say that another reason for the flood was to eradicate this angelic corruption in the gene pool, because if left, it may corrupt Jesus’ ability to save humankind if it contained angelic components. Jesus would then need to be the God/man/angel to save all.

But the main point of this text is how far human society deteriorated which led to God doing a redo. It will be like it in the end as well and God will do another redo. Yet Noah is the righteous seed that God can use to maintain the human race and the animal kingdom. It would be quite an undertaking and yet God prepares Noah for it and gives him instructions on how to make it all happen. It just goes to show that even as God executes judgement, He is truly a God of salvation and He will make a way for those seeking Him to be free of the judgement to come.

  10. While this chapter certainly can give me a feeling that we are in a similar place today in a world where evil has corrupted everything and surely God is grieving how far man has fallen like He did in this chapter. But when I read it this time I felt more of a similarity in us individually.
God knows our story, how we began and how we will end, but still He grieves for each poor choice and each time we loose our battle over sin. However, He also sees that glimmer in us, like Noah, He sees the good and gives us another chance. He provides us all we need to be victorious over sin and yet He knows where we will still fall short again and again. I know how frustrated I can get when someone lets me down and yet God does this for me everyday and is always there to help me find my way back just as He did in this chapter giving the world a “re-do” so to speak!

  11. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God… And Noah did everything just as God commanded him. He was a good example for us all!
