Genesis 5 (NIV)

From Adam to Noah
1 This is the written account of Adam’s family line.
When God created mankind, he made them in the likeness of God. 2 He created them male and female and blessed them. And he named them “Mankind” when they were created.
3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth.……Continue Reading

  1. “24 Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.”
Enoch walked with God and never saw death. It was like his relationship was so close to God he simply walked home with Him instead of a physical death here on earth. When so many others were mentioned here, their birth, life, and death and then this distinction is made we know God is acknowleding something very special. A life lived truly WITH God.

  2. Genesis 5 and Acts 13.

As I read in Genesis I do sit in the shock that people at one point lived hundreds of years on Earth before death. Reading Enoch was just taken away by God also is very interesting. No death? Just taken away, for being so faithful to the Lord. So in present day I would take that as, obedience to God truly carries over to everlasting reward and overflowing joy.

  3. Can’t read story of Adam and Eve without thinking they had heaven and because of one act they were separated from God. One small rebellion set in motion the shattering of Gods perfect creation The sinful nature was born. They realized they were naked!! God in his love for man already had a plan in place as the entire Bible God’s plan unfolding to come to earth offering all forgiveness for our position as descendants of Adam. Not anymore. Child of God. !! Beyond overwhelming !!

  4. The one person who didn’t die was Enoch. He walked with God faithfully, then God took him away.
He was in the family line of Noah, who also walked faithfully with God. It is a blessing to our children when we do the same. It increases the chances of them knowing the Lord and following him.

  5. I enjoy reading how old people got when the gene pool and the environment was pure, as well as how old people were when they had children. But I guess having kids at 100-500 was still around middle age…lol. It makes me think about what they did with all that time. It is comforting to know that it is just a drop in the bucket compared to eternity. And who can’t be impressed with Enoch? Living such a godly live that God takes Him home without having to die.

  6. Like how chapter 5 repeats the imagery of creation, and applies Adam’s son Seth similarly.

  7. Looking at Gen. 5 at the generations that descended from Adam. When Adam`s grandson { Enos} was born men began to call upon the Lord. { Gen. 4:26} This statement makes me think about Adam and Eve. Does this statement include them for Adam lived long enough to see Enos born. Maybe long enough for a few generations. Adam lived to be 930 years. So when he was 130 had Seth who became Enos`s father at age 105 years. So doing the math Adam would had been 235 years when Enos was born. Does this tell us that Adam didn`t walk with God until Enos was born? That`s sad if it is true. Maybe the statement { men began to call upon the Lord } is only a general statement. To perhaps answer your question Steve M. I do believe that some people did accept Enoch`s walk in the short span that he was on earth. { 365 years} It says that Enoch walked with God after Methuselah was born which would be when he was 65 years. He must of had influence on his children and grandchildren. For he was a preacher of righteousness and God`s coming judgement. This was before the flood. Jude 14,15 Just look to who came after him of his children. { Methuselah} , grandchild { Lamech}, and great grandchild { Noah}. I understand that when Methuselah would die the flood would come for that is what his name means. In reading this chapter it appears that others in this family died before the flood came. This would include Lamech. Methuselah being the son of Enoch probably had a lot of influence on his family. I guess we don`t know for sure but we do know that Noah came out of it all and was a righteous man. It is a shame though of all the millions that rejected God maybe even family members. But they were without excuse for both Enoch and Noah preached about God`s coming judgement. God bless all and may we tell others about Christ and the coming judgement.
