Genesis 2 (NIV)

1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.
2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.……Continue Reading

  1. 18 ¶ And the LORD God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.”

  2. ”But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.“
    ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭2‬:‭6‬ ‭KJV‬‬
I wonder what this was like. Water up from the earth.

  3. More detail on the 3rd, 5th and 6th days of creation
Before the curse everything was perfect, no death, all things ate plants.

25Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

  4. More detail is given about God’s most important creation, the ones who would bear His image. The setting that man would be put in is also described and the work he was given too. This shows that work is an essential part of God’s will for us, whatever form it takes. God also establishes the dynamic of free will by telling man he is not to eat from a particular tree. God only wanted us to know good, but He didn’t want to force man to obey but revere and regard Him willingly. And how amazing is the creation of the woman. Adam notices that he just doesn’t jive with any of the animals, as numerous as they were. But once he sees the woman, he knows exactly what she is there for. It is interesting that God creates a need in man and then satisfies that need with His provision. It is the same paradigm in much of life. It is just a question if we will trust God to take care of our needs and be patient for what He provides…and not listen to the tempter as he seeks to satisfy those needs with his ways….and destruction lies in his path….

  5. How can anyone not look up at stars at night and not believe in God. Impossible!!! Let US make man in OUR image. Never forget reading that for the first time

  6. Seventh day God rests. We can rest also when we are done on earth God breathed into man’s nostrils the breath of life. The Holy Spirit who breathe life into us!! Woman. What a beautiful creation. Become one flesh. What an awesome design by our Father

  7. And they shall become one flesh…

…and yet, thanks to God’s revealed Word, we know that God did so much more than that in marriage.

In Ephesians, God makes it clear through his servant Paul by using this very verse from Genesis that God did more than just join two bodies together. Chapter 5 of Ephesians reveals that in marriage, and in particular, the sexual union of marriage, husbands in fact become one with their wives to the point where they are to love them as they love their own bodies.

But even more than that…God tells us in His Word that husbands are to love their wives as Christ loved the church, and gave himself up for her.

How did Christ give Himself up for the church?

In all ways…even unto death…even death on a cross.

And in case we men still aren’t getting it…Paul spells it out for us after he quotes Genesis Chapter 2:

“‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.”

A mystery in the NT is something that was hidden in the OT, but has been revealed…it is with Christ’s coming that the true nature and implications and purpose of marriage is revealed. A marriage is to be the most intimate knowing of two people, joined together with one another in body, mind, and spirit, connected with one another in God’s Spirit. There can be no more intimate relationship than the one between Christ and His church. We the church are IN Christ, and He is IN us. You cannot be more intimate than to be IN and ONE with someone, and yet, that is what we are in Christ.

Marriage is meant to reflect that reality to the world. Just as a Christian is a supernatural creation of God…a human indwelled by the eternal Spirit of God…a marriage is a supernatural union of two lives, joined together by God, for His purpose and glory, to represent the most perfect and precious union…Christ and His church.

  8. Genesis 2 God provided Adam with trees that produced food, but had explained to Adam about the tree of knowledge and to not eat and if he did he would die. Then God created Eve from Adams bone and flesh. Verse 24 is still very important today , God created Adam and Eve perfect for each other and they were to become one flesh . Marriage was instituted by God, it was his idea for man and woman, and today there’s little value put on the sanctity of marriage. People just walk away instead of working on the problems. Ephesians 5 talks about how marriage is a living symbol of Christ and the church, and Matthew 19:6 says “they are no longer two but one. Therefore what God has joined together let man not separate,”marriage should be permanent.

  9. God rested on the seventh day showing us the importance of rest, meditation on the things God has done not just in creation but daily in our lives. I reminder to take nothing God does for granted for everything He does is with a purpose.
From the ground He made man and from man He made woman! Man stewards of the earth and all that is in it and woman a suitable helper for that stewardship. Also a reminder of relationship and the need for connection to God and to each other.
Right from the beginning the expression of our own free will with the tree. The knowledge that it is there but it is not good for us. The responsibility we have to choose wisely. The acceptance of dependance on our Father in heaven to trust that He knows best when we obey but also that sometimes what we want is not what we need and in those times we deny ourselves for the glory of our creator.

  10. God gave Adam a help mate to have stewardship over the garden and have dominion over the fish, birds, and every living thing. God only ordained men to marry women. This was to be one man and one woman for life. But because of sin, God allowed divorce in certain circumstances. Marriage between a man and a woman is to be with the Lord in the center. God never intended a marriage to break up because of differences or sin but rather to work things out and grow closer together through the Lord. Christ wants us husbands to love our wives as Christ loved the church. May God help us to do so for I often fail. Peace to all.
