Exodus 26 (NIV)
The Tabernacle
1“Make the tabernacle with ten curtains of finely twisted linen and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, with cherubim woven into them by a skilled worker. 2 All the curtains are to be the same size—twenty-eight cubits long and four cubits wide. 3 Join five of the curtains together, and do the same with the other five.……Continue Reading

Also besides the Lampstand and the Bread of the Presence in the Holy Place is the Altar of Incense which was located right outside the Holy of Holies or Most Holy. Chapter 30 gives a description of the Altar of Incense in it. God bless.
Exodus 26
So the tabernacle was a very elaborate design with every detail laid out for them. Obvious that God would want the place where He resides to be a a reflection of Him and want it built and cared for just the way He wants. It made me pause to think He now resides in us, in me! How well do I take care of His home? If ever I needed better motivation to eat right and exercise, today this was a good kick in the pants to take better care of my own tabernacle!

I was quite pleased to read God’s pretty in depth sewing project. It goes to show how even the smallest tasks are important to Gods truth and work in our lives. What seems to be an in-depth plan to make a fancy curtain really outlines the fabric that will be used to separate and protect the covenant. Really puts into perspective how our every day lives and the things we do need to be just as detailed. We need to have the plans in place to protect the covenant with Jesus that is in our hearts and minds. Sometimes a curtain isn’t just a curtain.
Great insight, Abby.
Having done some sewing recently, I was also impressed with the detail of this sewing and weaving project. This must have taken great skill. As an artist, sometimes I feel like “the arts” are considered less than, and that other work is more important, or that art is more play than work. It’s a hobby. I blame this mentality on Christians to a certain extent because they don’t see value (monetary or spiritual) in beautiful art. I have had so many people tell me that I should “put a scripture” on a painting to make it more “Christian”. God’s creation declares His glory and merely follow his blueprint. It’s encouraging to see God telling His people to craft beautiful things.
How significant that God gives such detailed descriptions about what should be in the tabernacle and how it should be made. And who better to do so? It would be a place dedicated to the worship of Him and so God would not leave up to…hey just do your best. The details mattered to Him in what it would communicate to the Israelites..even if it just was the beauty and intricacy of the whole thing. Each day they would be reminded…why is it like this..oh, because God told us to…let’s remember what we do here is not about us…but about Him!
Amen!
