  1. How amazing for them to sit and eat and fellowship with God! How awesome to see the presence of God like fire and for God to offer such protection and closeness to His people!

  2. What a personal and powerful God we have that would allow these leaders of Israel to see Him and be in such a close proximity. And then to have His glory surround them and invite Moses even closer to engage with Him for forty days and forty nights. It is neat to see that Moses woke up early to make it all happen. He had the people prepare sacrifices and mediated an affirmation of the covenant with the blood of the sacrifices because without the shedding of blood there can be no forgiveness of sin. And when he read the book of the covenant the people agreed to obey! As we consider how Israel forsakes the covenant and often strays away, how sad that they didn’t remember the commitment they made at the mountain of God, surrounded by His glory…

  3. “Then Moses went up, also Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, and they saw the God of Israel. And there was under His feet as it were a paved work of sapphire stone, and it was like the very heavens in its clarity. But on the nobles of the children of Israel He did not lay His hand. So they saw God, and they ate and drank.”

  4. 15When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it, 16and the glory of the Lord settled on Mount Sinai. For six days the cloud covered the mountain, and on the seventh day the Lord called to Moses from within the cloud. 17To the Israelites the glory of the Lord looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain. 18Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
