Reading along with us in Exodus and Romans? Here’s today’s reading:
Exodus 24 (NIV)
The Covenant Confirmed
1 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Come up to the Lord, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel. You are to worship at a distance, 2 but Moses alone is to approach the Lord; the others must not come near. And the people may not come up with him.”……Continue Reading
Exodus 24
Something that I don`t ever remember reading before in all my years of reading and studying the Bible is that seventy elders saw God and there is a description under His feet. Along with Moses, Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu. Also Joshua vs { 13} But Moses was the only one to see God face to face. What I didn`t remember was the seventy elders seeing God and the description. It is always good to be in God`s word and to be teachable as He reveals things to us in His word. Moses this time was up on Mount Sinai for 40 days and nights. God bless you all.
Exodus 24p
15When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it, 16and the glory of the Lord settled on Mount Sinai. For six days the cloud covered the mountain, and on the seventh day the Lord called to Moses from within the cloud. 17To the Israelites the glory of the Lord looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain. 18Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
God welcomes the leaders of Israel up the mountain as He affirms His covenant with them. It is established in blood, but also involves the people committing to do what God says…ie their side of the covenant. It is just sad to think about how soon they will cast an idol in defiance of the things God says. It is a reminder to us that actions matter more than promises and commitments. God also reveals aspects of His glory and calls Moses into the cloud. What an awesome experience that must have been, that we too will experience one day, thanks to Jesus.
Exodus 24
You read this chapter hoping to forget how soon these people experiencing such awestruck wonder of God’s presence will forget and turn to man-made idols! It challenges us to think about our own walk with God and be sure it isn’t just lip service but rather His words written on our hearts driving our actions even when times get tough and we don’t feel that awestruck wonder and presence in our lives.
Not just that…but the promise to put his Spirit in us, made in Ezekiel 36, has come to pass…so those who believe into Christ actually have God dwelling within them…every minute of every day, giving life to our mortal bodies and conforming us into the image of His Son…in that way, we have been given so much more than those we read of here. Yes, they could have still believed God, and you would think they would have…but without God’s Spirit within us, we are dead. But WITH God’s Spirit within us…what can we NOT do?
”Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read in the hearing of the people. And they said, “All that the Lord has said we will do, and be obedient.”“
Exodus 24:7 NKJV
Exodus 24. describing the covenant of blood in the old testament. Jesus fulfilled the covenant of the New Testament with his blood.
