12:46b “and you shall not break any of its bones.”
Jesus is the true Passover Lamb…here we see foretelling of how He would die for us, down to specific detail. God’s Word is incredible.
Now God gives Moses further instructions about what Israel is to do in preparation of the Passover. They are to put blood upon their doorposts. Both on the sides and top of the door frame. They are to eat inside in a hurry and eat all of the perfect lamb or goat. They are to observe this practice throughout generations and to observe it on the first month on the 10th day. This was the start of their new year. Their calendar was changed because of this event. This month is called Nisan. { early name Abib} It is in our March-April. So Israel does just as God has instructed them. This time God doesn`t use Moses or Aaron to bring about this event. He instead kills all the first born in Egypt. Remember this is the PASSOVER where in the future Jesus the Christ will die as the perfect LAMB of GOD. This is why God did this directly. For only He could. Pharoah finally sends Moses and all the Israelites away. Also a mixed multitude joined them. The Israelites carried many possessions out provided by the Egyptians. Just as God said they would. They left Egypt after 430 years and took the body of Joseph with them. Just as was foretold. God always keeps His promises. God bless.

So the last, deadly plague comes, and this time God provides a means for the Jews to receive different treatment than the Egyptians. In the other plagues, God just protected them, here they must follow His directions. And it is because this plague directly deals with death and the thing that protects us from death is blood…and blood from a perfect sacrifice. God wanted this to be such a vivid picture of the nature of His redemption and the protection they have through Him. It also provides a perfect picture of what Jesus will do, the lamb sacrificed before the beginning of the world, shedding His blood to forgive the sins and protect from death all those who believe. God also provides in His instructions the direction for the Jews to remember these events forever. He has done a great work to free them. He doesn’t want them to forget. It is unfortunate that so many Jews celebrate the cultural significance of the Passover, but really do not follow the God of the Passover or adhere to His word. May we pray that their eyes would be opened to recognize the Messiah that God has sent to save them to Himself….to provide for them what their connection to Abraham can’t.

”It will come to pass when you come to the land which the Lord will give you, just as He promised, that you shall keep this service. And it shall be, when your children say to you, ‘What do you mean by this service?’ that you shall say, ‘It is the Passover sacrifice of the Lord, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt when He struck the Egyptians and delivered our households.’ ” So the people bowed their heads and worshiped.“
Exodus 12:25-27 NKJV
13 ‘Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.
14 ¶ ‘So this day shall be to you a memorial; and you shall keep it as a feast to the LORD throughout your generations. You shall keep it as a feast by an everlasting ordinance.
