Esther 6 (NIV)

Mordecai Honored
1 That night the king could not sleep; so he ordered the book of the chronicles, the record of his reign, to be brought in and read to him. 2 It was found recorded there that Mordecai had exposed Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s officers who guarded the doorway, who had conspired to assassinate King Xerxes.…..Continue Reading

  1. Oh this is just the best! Haman is laying it on pretty thick all the treatment this man of honor should receive just assuming in his own pride that he is planning it for himself! The torment it must have brought him to them give all this to Mordecai by his own hand! When God decides to teach a lesson it is always impactful but I am sure this one stung a bit more than average for Haman!
Once again we see the faithful protected and those who turn away from God see His discipline.

  2. Haman still thinking so highly of himself thinks the king wants to honor hm. But he ends up being the one to proclaim how honored Mordecai is by the king to everyone. What a turn of events. He can`t wait to get back home to his wife and friends to tell them how humiliated he is and that he brought his enemy around telling the people that the king honors Mordecai. Then his wife and friends tells him that because Mordecai is Jewish, he [ Haman] has already begun to fall, and will not prevail over him. Here the friends are called wise men but other places just friends. Perhaps because of their word of truth about God and His people. They were right for after this came the kings chamberlains to hurry Haman away to the banquet. The beginning of the end. You can see God`s hand in all these events for here He makes it so that the king can`t sleep and finds out that Mordecai hadn`t been honored. God`s peace to all who follow Him.

  3. Pastor, Is Mordecai a type of ‘Christ’ here as he is placed on a horse and honored throughout the city? Also- Haman is forced to honor him even though he doesn’t want to.
Maybe it’s a stretch. Just interesting.

    1. I have never heard him referred to as such. Although there are similarities in that instance, there are not direct parallels. Even in his role of saving the people, he is joined by Esther.

  4. Esther 6, Dennis & Kelly, right with you on your comments. I wonder though, where was the wisdom in counsel his friends and wife had earlier? Does not the Bible say, “A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways”? Well, there wasn’t any, sound counsel; their views, advice changed with the blowing wind. Haman sought counsel from who we would call today as “yes men.” That is what he wanted.

Says the Bible, off the cuff,
“Without counsel purposes are disappointed, but in the multitude of counselors they are established.”

Best to seek counsel for plans from both sides, especially from those who we know won’t agree with us! -gy

  5. Esther 6 Haman’’s pride gets in the way again he thinks the King is talking about him to honor, only to find out the King wants to honor Mordecai the Jew that Haman wants to hang. You can see that Esther’s prayers and fasting with the other Jews is paying off God is faithful and he is seeing them through this.

  6. Once again we see the hand of God orchestrating things on behalf of His people. So the king just happens to not be able to sleep, this of all nights. And he just so happens to have the annals of his rule read….and what section jumps out…and who is now highlighted in his mind. And talk about the plans of the evil being turned on its head. David prays those kinds of prayers in the Psalms…and fitting ones for us to pray too…but it’s neat to see how God does it here. The very thing Naman thinks he is worthy of, Mordecai receives. And it is interesting that those who were encouraging Naman to kill Mordecai, recognize the power of God on him as a Jew. God is bringing it all together as the plot continues to unfold.

    1. I listen to the audio version while working then I’ll read the comments illuminating a much better understanding of God’s word

  7. “Since Mordecai, before whom your downfall has started, is of Jewish origin, you cannot stand against him—you will surely come to ruin!” God’s plan to save his people is set in motion, and Haman’s pride will result in his destruction.
