Reading along with us in Ecclesiastes? Here’s today’s reading:

Ecclesiastes 10 (NIV)

1 As dead flies give perfume a bad smell,
so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.
2 The heart of the wise inclines to the right,
but the heart of the fool to the left.
3 Even as fools walk along the road,
they lack sense
and show everyone how stupid they are.……Continue Reading

  1. Solomon spends this chapter discussing foolishness in individuals, leadership, and even rulers. We all know foolishness leads to a mess but how often are we acting too quickly or ruled by emotion and ultimately being foolish ourselves. We must be wise and the only way to do that is to stay in His word, take time to stop and listen to His voice in situations and allow God to guide our steps because when left to our own devices foolishness follows!

  2. Vs 2. A political prophecy?? Vs 4. Your boss has a temper tantrum ignore it It will pass. Solomon continues in vs 5-7. Everything including riches and wisdom are nothing without God. Vs 10 great insight. No doubt who wrote proverbs. Need to do a better job. Sharpen your skills. Vs 16-18. Examples of Israel rulers being lazy and selfish

  3. Again Solomon continues to speak as though everything is in vain. But there is still some wise words. In verse 1b he speaks of how a little folly can ruin the reputation of someone who is seeking to have wisdom and honor. A little leaven leaventh the whole lump. 1 Cor 5;6 Also 1Cor.15;33 [ Be not deceived; evil communications corrupt good manners.] It is also true that when a king is angry [ boss] if you respond in a quiet manner his anger will be turned away. Proverbs 15;1 [ A soft answer turneth away wrath; but grievous words stir up anger.] Then in verse 12 he states how a wise man`s mouth is gracious while the lips of the foolish will come upon himself. He will be buried in his own foolishness and words. That is because a wise man considers how he will speak. And finally in verse 20 he states not to curse the king. We have to be so careful of how we speak of others. For if others hear that we are bad mouthing someone or just complaining about something it is a poor testimony of who we are as believers and of our Lord. Not only that but the Lord hears us. Of course He also knows our thoughts. Ephesians 4;29,30 [ Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hears. And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.] Lord help us to as we talk with others that our speech may always be what you desire it to be.

  4. 1 ¶ Dead flies putrefyfn the perfumer’s ointment,
    And cause it to give off a foul odor;
    So does a little folly to one respected for wisdom and honor.

  5. “A feast is made for laughter, And wine makes merry; But money answers everything.”
    ‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭10‬:‭19‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

    True and not true. Sometimes we think money will fix all our issues, but many times it causes damage.

  6. Be wise regardless of it’s effect or how it is corrupted by fools. Work hard and do things that are right even if the thing you are doing brings a bad result. Yes you do not know what tomorrow brings, but live life with gusto knowing the God who does know is on your side! And don’t worry about wealth or stature or how that is regarded in the world. Seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness and trust God for how He will bless you. Fulfill responsibilities because that will be the best you can do to foster prosperity. And money is not the answer for everything. God is!

  7. Stay calm in the presence of adversity, keep your words few, work as if you are working for the Lord (because you are!), know that money is not the answer and God will bless us in his good time, stop negative thinking as soon as it happens, and keep your mouth from speaking poorly about others.
