  1. Jesus starts to explain who is gonna be in the kingdom of God. He explains that many people know something about God, but only a few have acknowledged their sinners and they’re in need of a savior. Jesus grieves over Jerusalem, but the point He’s making is that true Israel is all people who believe in him. It’s laughable to think that the Pharisees were interested in protecting Jesus from Herod. They didn’t want him to go to Jerusalem, as if Herod’s dislike of Jesus would change His plans. Jesus being directed by God Himself, on God‘s time and according to His plan, Herod was just a pawn. Jesus talks about the great feast. The invitations go out and then an announcement the banquet is ready. . The Pharisees got the first part right. They believed in Moses and the laws, but they refused to accept that everything was ready, refusing to accept God‘s Son. I love the picture of man who goes after the one lost sheep. And the woman with 10 coins and she finds the one that is lost and the analogy that there is joy in the presence of God‘s angels, when even one sinner repents. To think we’re part of this plan as ambassadors for Christ to bring people into a relationship with him!

  2. The way is narrow to get into God’s Kingdom and few find it unfortunately. Yet Jesus will die for all at the time that God has determined when Jesus had finished His work. And because of this, those who are low and recognize their need for Jesus will be lifted high and those who are high and think they don’t need Him will be brought low. And that is why the lowly will be invited to the supper and will come, while those who were too busy are shut out. But the way of following Jesus will be hard and we need to be prepared to sacrifice the things of the flesh and take up our cross. And yet Jesus will always seek us out. He will leave the many who are secure to find the one who is lost. What a balance between the effort we put it and the effort Jesus puts in to make all that we do for Him possible.

  3. Jesus trying to teach the Pharisees that healing someone on the Sabbath is an acceptable practice. They were so focused on following the law that they were oblivious to who was standing before them and couldn’t even understand the concept! And they would not dare respond to what Jesus said because he was right. Those who are first will be last, and those who are last will be first. In God’s kingdom, there is no place for pride, vanity and the thought that someone is better than others because they have worldly possessions. All of this means nothing in the end, so it is best not to focus on these things.
