  1. It is interesting that Jesus points out the latitude the Jewish leaders would give themselves on the Sabbath, and yet they give Jesus none. Even to the extent of wanting to kill Him because of His defiance of their standards. And this is against someone who just healed someone miraculously. But He is the Lord of the sabbath and the sabbath was meant to be a gift to men, not something men would be burdened by. But other people get how unique Jesus is, so they come from everywhere to see Him and touch Him. But the prophet tells us that all this power will not go to Jesus’ head, but He will be a merciful servant of God. And Jesus shows that dependence on God by spending concerted and long times of prayer with Him. Wouldn’t it have been nice to hear what those conversations with Father and Son were like? And He chooses 12 that will follow Him and carry His message, even choosing the one who would betray Him. And as the people gather around, Jesus knows it is a perfect time to give them a download of instruction. And boy what a defining message this sermon on the mount would be describing the nature of the people in His kingdom, sharing the expectation that those influenced by His message would impact the world, and He had not come to erase the law but show how it was meant to be applied and show its true meaning. And that is just the start….

  2. If your not attending Wednesday night prayer in Bible study or any other Time of prayer are study during the week then you’re just missing an incredible time of growth and fellowship and understanding of the word of God. last night we spoke of Jesus, choosing the 12 apostles and how common these men were 12 men that were gonna carry out the greatest news of all of mankind, men that denied him men that betrayed him, men that doubted him , men that didn’t understand who he was completely
And John 13 verse one he says he had loved his disciples during his ministry on earth and how he loved him to the very end. What a picture that is of us, a bunch of misfits who love each other and carrying out the word of God and the love of Jesus Still today

  3. With simple yet poignant words, Jesus shows the Pharisees the errors in their thinking. God is the Lord of everyday and gives us the law to assist us through those days but not that we would be so bound to it to overlook when there is need He wants us to fill, people He wants us to save, or ways we can be used. We should be doing His work at home, at work, at school, and in our hobbies. If He is always the focus there will always be ways to give Him glory. We seek Him in ALL decisions, like Jesus did before He selected the apostles. We don’t let our thinking or our interpretation of something stop the work of God. Jesus certainly didn’t even going so far as to die to fulfill His Father’s plan!

  4. This section made me think about the Sabbath. It is interesting what Jesus says about the sabbath that it was made for man and not to be some legalistic chain. That being said, Jesus also says to obey the law in section 3.18! It does seem good to keep a sabbath, to have a day of rest, and I am one to pre-prepare for an event or meal so that the day can be restful for me! I was thinking we should prepare in advance to obey God. There are so many ways that can be applied, like setting up good habits of being in Gods word, not going to places you shouldn’t go, buying things you shouldn’t, looking at things you shouldn’t… “Be careful little eyes what you see. Be careful little ears what you hear…..for the Father up above is looking down in love….”
