The disciples began to follow Jesus and I love that they call Him teacher. They follow knowing they have so much to learn and so much He will show them. When we walk with Jesus we walk in knowledge.
Day 6 assignment read. I am amazed every time I read how Jesus said very little to these men who dropped everything to follow him.
John the Baptist had a large following. But he knew his role.telling his followers to follow the lamb of God. We should know our roles and not envy any others Andrew is excited to tell others about the messiah. Are we? Jesus tells Nathaniel I knew you before you met me. God knows us. ! Most non believers think a relationship with God will be no fun and dull. But God gives us the best wine CSNT imagine life without Jesus. Don’t know how people do life alone. Nothing like. True freedom. And all the fruit of the spirit!!
I had thought that Jesus Called Simon, Cephas (Stone), much later when he professed Jesus as the Christ. It just jumped out to me that Jesus called him Peter/Rock/stone way before he professed that Jesus was the Christ.
“Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” – Matthew 16: 17-18
John the Baptist knew who he was and he knew who Jesus was as well, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. What a telling description from a Jewish man who understood the sacrificial system and yet understands that Jesus will be the One to finish the work needed to address sin. And John prepared his disciples well too, because once John shows them who Jesus is they turn to follow Him. And how natural it is for them to share the good news with family and friends. It is amazing to see how readily they believe and follow. Much of that had to do with the ministry of John and the trust they had in Him and in each other as well as who Jesus was. We can also imagine the Spirit working in hearts to reenforce the testimony of Jesus there. Jesus also uses divine insight to win over Nathaniel. How exciting to be there at the ground floor of Jesus’ ministry and be drawn to Hm by what He said and did. Although Jesus felt it wasn’t His time, He decided to turn the water to wine. This had very little to do with the influence that Mary had over Him and more to do with the power He had and His willingness to use it to help people. It is interesting to see Mary’s understanding of what Jesus can do and her clear direction, that the best thing to do with Jesus is to do what He says.
Jesus first miracle was at a wedding. How fitting that is since Jesus is the bridegroom of the church!
