Paul’s Trial Before Felix
1 Five days later the high priest Ananias went down to Caesarea with some of the elders and a lawyer named Tertullus, and they brought their charges against Paul before the governor. 2 When Paul was called in, Tertullus presented his case before Felix:……Continue Reading

  1. The Jewish lawyer gives platitudes to Felix and vague accusations against Paul. Paul gives a detailed defense about his behavior and points out what is lacking in the points the Jewish leaders have brought, not even having the proper accusers with them. It is interesting that those with a clear conscience who have been right with God don’t have to worry about the truth and can describe things accurately and honestly. Those who haven’t need to speak in vague terms and try to deflect away from the truth. And when you are motivated by power, greed and popularity, like Felix, you keep Paul in prison unjustly for way too long, and have meaningless conversation hoping to get a bribe….

  2. The bulk of the case brought against Paul boiled down to he was a troublemaker! By most standards this puts every 3 year old under fear of conviction 😉 These men just wanted things to be their way and didn’t want anyone to rock their boat. Felix displays interest in what Paul has to say and you are even inclined to think he believes him, however, he keeps him in prison. He is guilty of something so many of us can be guilty of and that is knowing what is right but refusing to do what is right purely out of the fear of what others may think, say, or do! Almost feels worse than not believing at all. I found myself in a situation just this past weekend when someone said no offense and made a poor comment about God and with boldness I repled “actually offense taken” and tried to lovingly explain my thoughts about God and even if they didn’t listen I pray a seed was planted!

  3. As Paul talked about righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, “That’s enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you.” When people find it convenient to listen to the word (on Christmas, Easter, Mother’s Day etc.), they attend church services. But most of the time,, they choose not to hear about being right with God, controlling sinful desires and the Lord’s judgement upon the world. It makes them fearful so they don’t go to church and they shut God out of their lives. And good for you Kelly for telling that person you ARE offended and offer up some wisdom about the One True God!
