Acts 20 (NIV)

Through Macedonia and Greece
1 When the uproar had ended, Paul sent for the disciples and, after encouraging them, said goodbye and set out for Macedonia. 2 He traveled through that area, speaking many words of encouragement to the people, and finally arrived in Greece, 3 where he stayed three months. Because some Jews had plotted against him just as he was about to sail for Syria,……Continue Reading

  1. First, I can’t imagine Pastor giving a message and someone falls asleep leading to him falling to his death! That certainly was a crazy situation and yet God uses it for another amazing miracle.
Paul’s example is a great one of faith and perserverance and I am sure the idea that these men would not see him again was difficult. While Jesus is our ultimate example, it is so encouranging to be around people that are strong in their faith, bold in their message, and wise in their knowledge of God. Fellowship with believers is so important to our own faith journey and to be a part of Paul’s ministry must have been something great to see; he embraced the suffering like blessing and that is very hard for us to do!

  2. I hope no one could imagine someone falling asleep during one of my messages, independently of someone falling out a window…lol. But as much as Paul was an evangelist and defended the faith, he always made sure he doubled back and checked on those who were saved and encouraged and taught them. And many became very dear to him. I hope that would be true of all of us at Living Hope, that we love each other deeply and care about what we are dealing with and join together to accomplish things for God’s kingdom. And that we all would share Paul’s love and trust in God to say our lives are for naught, and all that matters is that God’s will is done in our lives, regardless of what happens.

  3. So grateful for someone like Paul, who receiving Christ in such an awesome and dramatic way then works so hard getting that truth out of who Jesus was and try to make people understand that truth who otherwise would be lost and deceived.

  4. Paul connects with believers as he travels to Jerusalem getting daily strength, support and encouragement from them. When he is told that he will be bound like a criminal and handed over to the Gentiles, he does not change his mind about his decision to go there. He stands for what he believes in regardless of the consequences. And he makes light of it saying he is willing to die for the name of Jesus. May we see the benefit of all that we do in the name of the Lord and be determined to continue with it regardless of the risks we take to our welfare, reputation, popularity, wealth, and so on. And connecting with the family of believers as we do so.

  5. Paul laying on Eutychus and declaring him alive reminded me of Elijah and the widow’s son.

Sometimes I think of events like this as an appeal, “hey God, you are working here and this doesn’t fit! It doesn’t make You look good!” I can think of other places where God honors this appeal, like Moses asking God not to destroy Israel after the golden calf incident.
