Acts 2 (NIV)

The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost
1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them............Continue Reading

  1. Typically when we are afraid of something we don’t understand we need to give excuses to make it make sense to us. Similarly, when the Holy Spirit poured out and they were speaking in many tongues people said they must be drunk. The same way they crucified Jesus when they couldn’t make sense of His words and His coming to the earth.
Peter explains to the people that these things do make sense if you understand the power and plan of God if you take that step of faith to believe the signs and wonders you are seeing, What an awesome picture that over 3,000 take that step of faith and turn from their unbelief and begin to live a life that brings glory to God!

  2. What an amazing book. Jesus said. It is finished!! Part of his purpose was to train the apostles. And now the church spreads through them all over the Roman Empire. And to the ends of the earth!! Chapter 2 7-11. Christianity is available to ALL people. Love the difference in peters personality. Denies the Lord 3 times. Now he stands up and addresses the truth about God. Peter is a great example of someone who makes bad mistakes his whole life. But the Holy Spirit. Forgiveness and useful for the kingdom of God. No looking back!! What a powerful spirit filled message. 3000 in one day!! Nice picture of how the church should operate. Helping one another in every possible way. Verse 47. Praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. That is a picture of what God has done at living hope. The reason why we see God adding to our numbers every week!!

  3. I was envisioning this picture and the overwhelming sense of awe, in the believers at first and then others came to see what was going on and then they heard in their own language the wonderful works of God.

“Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.” When Jesus was seated at the Father, He sent down the Holy Spirit up all who believe. Consider this Power that we have indwelling us here and now.

  4. How privileged we are to have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us as believers in Jesus. And to see how God made it clear that He was doing something new is incredible. He told the disciples to be in Jerusalem for this very reason and yet they probably couldn’t have imagined this. It was an unmistakable experience for them and for those in Jerusalem to show God was on the move. I believe there could be a miracle happening on both sides: what the apostles are saying and what they are hearing. And yet all this sets Peter up to share a fantastic message based in Old Testament scripture and the experience of Jesus. He puts His death squarely on these Jews’ shoulders and puts His resurrection on the power of God. Anyone with a conscience would have been cut to the quick. And many turn to be saved. It is important to recognize that Peter is not talking about baptism as a requirement for salvation, but an expression of it. And boy does this group of new and older believers know how to act towards each other. Any church would be wise to function in the learning, fellowship, giving and outreach represented here. Oh that we would seek to follow the example set by them here in this chapter….

  5. I’m a bit behind on the readings because I was working on the 10 days prayer guide. My observations from Acts 2 are:
The experience must have been amazing if the sound from heaven was like a violent wind and tongues of fire separated and came upon them! The timing was perfect because God fearing Jews were there from every nation. The last days began when the Holy Spirit was poured out on the apostles. Peter explained to the people that Jesus, the person they crucified, was the Messiah. When they understood in their hearts that this was true, they were convicted of their wrongdoing and wanted to repent and join the believers. The fellowship of believers act the following way: they have a strong desire to engage in the teachings of the bible, give to people in need, break bread, pray, and meet together, and praise God for everything. When believers do these things, other people see the benefits of being a Christian and because God draws them to himself, they are saved.

  6. I want to add what I learned from Pastor Peter yesterday in bible study. That when we do these things, we allow the Holy Spirit to guide us so we can know the will of God and what he wants us to do in our lives.
