2 Kings 16 (NIV)
Ahaz King of Judah
1 In the seventeenth year of Pekah son of Remaliah, Ahaz son of Jotham king of Judah began to reign. 2 Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. Unlike David his father, he did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord his God.……Continue Reading

Back: 2 Kings 15

Ahaz starts off bad, continues, badly, and finishes pretty bad. Disappointing to see Urijah, as a priest, go along with so many obvious evil and idolatrous plans as well. God was not a consideration for either man. Ahaz looked to other kings to secure his safety and victories rather than God and celebrated on his own altar and didn’t even use a priest to do so. No regard for God’s ways. Funny that some of these kings seem to have temporary success or prosperity, much like the rich and powerful of today, but there is no eternal plan. I guess its like the old addage, enjoy it now cuz you can’t take it with you when you’re gone. Thanks but I would rather store up my treasure in heaven and sit at the feet of Jesus for all eternity!

Psalm 67; 2 Kings 16; Jeremiah 44
So sad to see an unrighteousness king in Judah after a series of righteous kings. It just goes to show there are no guarantees as to what future generations will do with the truth of God. We must continue to teach and reflect the truth so we do what we can to draw younger generations to it. And when we forsake God we are left to our own devices as to how to manage life. So when Ahaz is confronted with overwhelming enemies, he makes a deal with the devil, the one God is using to discipline Israel, and drains the temple and the treasury to accomplish a tenuous peace with a bully. And it is both sad and funny that he sees a false altar that Israel is being disciplined for and says, let me do the same thing. And the priest follows along. How wrong it is when governmental people get involved in the functions of the worship of God and start dictating how it should go. It is then the religious leaders role is to put the governmental leader in their place.
