Reading along with us in Deuteronomy and Corinthians? Here’s today’s reading:
Deuteronomy 25 (NIV)
1 When people have a dispute, they are to take it to court and the judges will decide the case, acquitting the innocent and condemning the guilty. 2 If the guilty person deserves to be beaten, the judge shall make them lie down and have them flogged in his presence with the number of lashes the crime deserves,……Continue Reading
Deuteronomy 23-25; 2 Corinthians 10
Easy to read, understand. Concept of brother marrying the widow, 40 stripes limit, just weights are good passages to remember. Parallels to Ruth, Matthew 22, the Crucifixion, Acts and the apostle Paul, and Hebrews are obvious.
Not ignoring the hand amputation law; it is beyond my comprehension.
God wants Israel to live righteously, and without grace, only law can be the “schoolmaster.”
Every day we live should reflect the law written in the heart.
The Lord wants us all to deal with each other honestly. When payments are made, they are to be accurate. He says that our lives will be long on earth if we are honest. The Lord detests dishonest people. The Lord has a lot to say about lies in the Bible. It usually is included in a list of the worst sins. All sin is bad, but not all are mentioned in lists as this sin is. Col. 3:9 {Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man, with his deeds.} Eph. 5:6 {Let no man deceive you with vain words; for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.} Psalm 15:2 {He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the Truth in his heart.} These are just a few scriptures but the first two are in a list with many others sins. There are many more lists where lies are mentioned. God bless you all.
Deuteronomy 25
More various laws showing how God wants order and obedience. Reflective of care individuals, animals, and a desire for justice and equality.
I could not help but think of Jesus when it mentions here to no go over 40 lashes. And how important family and carrying on family name is to God. As well as what is fair in resolving a fight.
Settling disputes, brotherly duty (wouldn’t they be carrying on their own name too?), just weights and measures,
Destroy the Amalekites.
