Reading along with us in Deuteronomy and Corinthians? Here’s today’s reading:
Deuteronomy 16 (NIV)
The Passover
1 Observe the month of Aviv and celebrate the Passover of the Lord your God, because in the month of Aviv he brought you out of Egypt by night. 2 Sacrifice as the Passover to the Lord your God an animal from your flock or herd at the place the Lord will choose as a dwelling for his Name……Continue Reading
Rememberance and justice. This chapter shows the importance of stopping to recognize and remember all God has accomplished in our lives. These feasts all had significance to remember what God had done for His people. They were chances not only to remember but to pass down to the next generations at the same time. Appointing judges to keep impartiality in settling matters, something we do even today. Perhaps not always the best system but we are still honoring God’s desires to try to show mercy and be fair to every person. It is always man that perverts the systems intended to do good but that was never God’s plan.
Giving back to God a portion of what he had given us. Rick Warren has it correct. He gives 90 percent to God. Goes much further than tithing to your church. Take a good look around the world today. Are we blessed in this country? All good things come from above. So many friends that have tight closed fist with millions in stocks and their moods are driven by how Exxon mobile stocks are performing each day. A waitress could be shedding tears struggling financially and they pull their calculator out as to only give what is required not a penny more. Lord help me. To have that attitude. To be so grateful to our a lord for what we have been given Open our hands and help those in need. Now that is a better high than anything in this life can give you
Liked this Mark. How true that there are so many areas and so many things we could do for people in need. Give with a grateful and happy heart because it’s a great feeling to give!
Deuteronomy 16
Deuteronomy 16
Deuteronomy 16
16, lest we forget, there are times and seasons that should be marked and celebrated, to remind us how God has been gracious. My granddaughters birthday is today, 28th. Truly, God has blessed all of my family with our dear Charlotte. God is good, and He gave the law to help Israel see they needed a Saviour. Thank you, Lord, for Jesus, and my Charlotte!
Deuteronomy 16
God wanted to always be before the Israelites, to aid them in following Him. So He established things they would do daily, weekly and in certain months and seasons. They all had various lessons to teach and reasons to do everything..but all would point to who God is, what He had done and what they would then do in response. There are similarities in different aspects of the Christian life, but our activities are more spiritual and individual in practice. What we have to make sure we don’t miss is the communal aspect of the practice of our faith, which was an essential and substantive part of the practice of the Jews. So many aspects of the things of God are intended to be a “we” thing, rather than a “me” thing.
All good comments everyone! The people of Israel were to remember what the Lord had done for them when He brought them out of Egypt. In this case three times a year as a whole nation with the Passover; Feast of weeks, and feast of tabernacles. There were daily things they were to remember also not mentioned in this chapter like teaching their children about the Lord and what He did for Israel. We as believers are to always be looking to the Lord in our daily lives. We need His wisdom and strength everyday of our lives. God bless you all.
