Deuteronomy 15 (NIV)
The Year for Canceling Debts
1 At the end of every seven years you must cancel debts. 2 This is how it is to be done: Every creditor shall cancel any loan they have made to a fellow Israelite. They shall not require payment from anyone among their own people, because the Lord’s time for canceling debts has been proclaimed.……Continue Reading
Deuteronomy 15
2 Corinthians 5; Deuteronomy 15
Such care for people shown here. God did not want to see a poor people that could never get ahead but rather give them opportunities to get back up on their feet. These laws made those with money a helper in that process. It was fair and expected to work off your debts but there was a possible end in sight.
I love the idea of the bondservant. The slave that chooses to stay with the master. We are bondservants to Christ. Our relationship with Him and our commitment to serve Him is a choice is not forced and our life devotion to Him is complete.
Deuteronomy 15
We are to lend to others in need. At the end of 7 yrs we are to cancel debts. They were not able to require payment from their own people. We are to require payment from foreigners. God did not want any poverty in their own people. God said if they followed his direction he would bless them as he promised. We should give with a generous heart and God will Bless you in every thing you touch!.
God has always made it clear that we should help the down trodden. He says let the weak say I am strong let the poor say I am rich. The last will be 1st. We should not look away when someone is in great need. Whether it be prayer, shelter, warmth. We can do many things and God seems to put people in our path to do his will.
Deuteronomy 15
As a country how much stronger and united we would be if we followed God’s direction and took care of the poor, needy, sick, widowed, etc. Instead, the focus is on saving those around the world and we neglect those among our own people at every turn. God’s wisdom and design are evident throughout the scriptures. A nation’s and society’s success or failure is directly tied to their level of Godliness and heeding of the Lord’s creeds.
Deuteronomy 16
Recently at a restaurant where the waitress in conversation was telling us recently married. Young child. Woke up 40 degrees in house. No oil no money. You have a few hundred in your wallet. What are you going to do? As an ambassador for Jesus. We come across these people today as God speaks of 1500BC. How dare we just leave. Wishing them well

Deuteronomy 16
15:12ff Concur with Kelly, labor and service can be offered to secure a debt, good practice, if executed righteously. The law provided guidance.
15:21 Give your best unto the Lord.
Deuteronomy 15
Excellent comments, Kelly and Sean! How much better would all our lives be if we followed what God instructed for all of us. The world is a fallen world because of sin, and mankind would rather be his own boss. He makes himself his own god or idols and wonders why his life is such a wreak. Such foolishness. If people would only come to Jesus putting their complete trust in Him; they would realize that even in the midst of trouble, Jesus would help them. But they have to surrender to Him. Even as Christians, if we try to manage things on our own, we will make a mess of things. This is why as believers, everything must be surrendered to Him. We belong to Him, and should act accordingly. God bless you all.
