Absalom’s Conspiracy
1 In the course of time, Absalom provided himself with a chariot and horses and with fifty men to run ahead of him. 2 He would get up early and stand by the side of the road leading to the city gate. Whenever anyone came with a complaint to be placed before the king for a decision,……Continue Reading

  1. Absalom’s anger and evil is clearly still evident in this plan to overthrow David. Funny how some people were swayed by his politician approach, promising justice for people feeling wronged much like he felt after what happened to Tamar and others simply went blindly with Absalom when he left for Hebron not even realizing they were part of his plan.
We do see a different David here, one broken by the realization that his own sin has gotten him here and how much that sin is now effecting many innocent people. Humbled and broken, David turns to God knowing God’s plan is the only one that will prevail and finds peace knowing whatever his fate in this situation God is in control.

    1. Thanks , it’s neat how something 2000 years ago is still applicable today: your comment about God is in control. It’s something I hold onto when I feel it’s all out of control and reading it this morning, your comment brighten my day.

  2. How sad to see this conspiracy unfold and yet I can’t but think again, where was David as Absalom was doing what he was doing for 4 years. It appears David did nothing to try to turn his son’s heart to him. We do see in this as well what was prophesied for David. But Absalom is still wrong for what he did and division is evil in the sight of the Lord. He had a responsibility to go to David if there was a problem. But David does the noble thing to leave the city to avoid needless bloodshed and also to give people a chance to not follow him. It is neat to see the dedication that these people had to David, showing that they saw in David the leader that he was. And he is wise to send people to spy on Absalom and inform him because he probably had a sense that he would be back again and Absalom would not be successful.

  3. The result of David`s sins are still happening as God said it would. David never confronts Absalom about his sin and never tries to make their relationship right. Neither does Absalom. Now Absalom is brought back but David never tries to communicate with Absalom. Meanwhile Absalom hatred festers toward his father and is built up over time. In the course of 40 years has him winning the hearts of the people including David`s own counselor. {Ahithophel}. Absalom use his good looks, lies, words, and charm so that he may become the king. 2 Sam. 14:25, 2 Sam. 15. David is even forced to flee to avoid bloodshed. But thank the Lord that there were others that stood by David. David wisely sends the ark of God back to Jerusalem and his own out come in God`s hands. He prays to God and prays that Ahithophel counsel would be turned to foolishness. He also does want he can do and sends Hushai to be eyes for him and help defeat the counsel of Ahithophel. Along with some others to pass information to David such as Zadok, Abiathar, and others. God bless.

  4. ”Then the king said to Zadok, “Carry the ark of God back into the city. If I find favor in the eyes of the Lord, He will bring me back and show me both it and His dwelling place. But if He says thus: ‘I have no delight in you,’ here I am, let Him do to me as seems good to Him.”“
