2 Kings 7 (NIV)

1 Elisha replied, “Hear the word of the Lord. This is what the Lord says: About this time tomorrow, a seah of the finest flour will sell for a shekel and two seahs of barley for a shekel at the gate of Samaria.”
2 The officer on whose arm the king was leaning said to the man of God, “Look, even if the Lord should open the floodgates of the heavens, could this happen?”……Continue Reading

  1. I love the thought process of the lepers in this chapter. First, the only reason they left was with such obvious and yet profound reflection, we will die if we stay and we may die if we go so let’s try! The grim reality of their situation gave them bravery (and likely a nudge from God) that sets the next things in motion. I picture them walking into this abandonded camp and immediately going kinda hog wild, from death to all this stuff right there for the taking! Once again the reality of their fellow Isrealite’s situation (and likely another nudge from God) has them share this good news instead of keeping it for themselves. Therefore, all the words shared with the doubting officer come true just as Elisha said they would. The officer just couldn’t wrap his mind around the power of God and the creativity in His provision. He caused an entire army to hear things literally drop everything and run away…I know God really has a sense of humor! His protection and provision came to His people in the strangest of ways through the most amazing of circumstances that God orchestrated and the doubting officer gets to see it all before his doubt lead to his death. I am gonna choose not to be like this officer and trust even when it doesn’t make sense because I know our God is bigger, wiser, and more loving then our heads can ever wrap around!

  2. Our perception is a very powerful thing in terms of what we convince ourselves to be true. It is found both in what God convinces the Aramians of and in what the king projects on why the Aramian camp is empty. That is why it is so important for us to allow God and His word to guide our perception and take things at face value when we are dealing with things that are right before us. And it is interesting to see how God uses these lepers to discover what has happened that allows Elisha’s prophecy to come true. And may we all not just keep as much as we can get, but think of others and how we can best share what we have received. And the chapter is very much a confirmation that we can believe God for what He says regardless of how hard it seems for Him to accomplish it.

  3. The lepers during this time of famine. Find more food than wrights chicken farm. Instead of hoarding. They spread the good news with others are we content to have eternal life or so desire to share the good news. Vs. 18-20. Idols never provide our daily food. A sovereign God can open the flood gates of heaven
