Naaman Healed of Leprosy
1 Now Naaman was commander of the army of the king of Aram. He was a great man in the sight of his master and highly regarded, because through him the Lord had given victory to Aram. He was a valiant soldier, but he had leprosy.……Continue Reading

  1. A great chapter on a new believer. Naaman expected his healing to come in a different way then dipping in the Jordan but thankfully a wise servant convinced him to listen. Sometimes the truth of God comes to people in pieces and through many before they trust and believe. When he obeyed, he saw the truth and power of God but knew this would cause conflict for his current life. He knew he would need to face situations where he would have to worship another. Elisha seems to leave this up to him and God to come up with a solution. Another chance to know what is right and decide whether or not you will do it based out of fear of man. As new believers change happens and some of it can be uncomfortable at first but so necessary. Finally the greed of Gehazi, who also should have known better, comes at a high price. He chose money over God and it led to his own destruction as it does for so, so many!

  2. Remember reading this chapter in Wednesday night study. How Naaman thought it was beneath him to go wash in dirty water. Like us quick fix. Just bless me and heal me. He also being a hero wanted a healing with pomp and circumstance. Self motivated. Reminds of the simple act of forgiveness of our sins. To be healed To just humble ourselves before God and ask for Gods mercy. Gehazi. Saw an opportunity to get rich. Lied over and over to obtain wealth. Fell into a trap. Says he was a faithful servant. But temptation overtook him

  3. This is one of my favorite chapters in the Bible and I just love the various lessons taught and see Namaan go from an unbeliever to a very sincere believer. He is a typical picture of the human race…looking good on the outside, but plagued with an internal defect. And although he starts proud, he listens and receives the power of God. And by it, he is changed within and without. I just love his innocence yet conviction about sacrificing to no one but the Lord and yet realizing that he would need to join his master. And don’t you just love that he thinks he needs to/can take God in a pile of dirt? And yet Elisha accepts the innocent faith expressed in the question. And how dare Gehazi corrupt the free/faith gift that was given by God and make Namaan pay. He is like every pharisaical legalist that puts a burden of law on people where God intends for there to be grace. His and their correction is warranted. And how foolish Gehazi is to think that he can pull the wool over the prophets eyes. We don’t do anything outside of God’s view either…

  4. 2 Kings 5
When Namaan thought that his healing should take a different form, it reminded me of the Jews who rejected Jesus because they were expecting a king to come and save them rather than a simple man.

  5. Naaman had a perception of how God should heal him, and when he didn’t hear what he expected he almost lost the opportunity to be healed. If it wasn’t for the people who were giving him wise counsel, he would have walked away empty. As with Elisha, we know when a person is righteous when they do not take gifts for doing what is right in the eyes of the Lord. As with Gehazi, we also know when someone is corrupt when they lie and manipulate for their own material gain. If they continue with this behavior, it will catch up with them, and they will pay for it one way or another. It is best to refuse the offer of a gift for a charitable act. God will reward us in ways that are much more satisfying than material gain. For “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” Hebrews 6:10
