2 Chronicles 7 (NIV)

The Dedication of the Temple
1 When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple. 2 The priests could not enter the temple of the Lord because the glory of the Lord filled it. 3 When all the Israelites saw the fire coming down and the glory of the Lord above the temple, they knelt on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord, saying,
“He is good;
his love endures forever.”..........Continue Reading

  1. “King Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty-two thousand bulls and one hundred and twenty thousand sheep.”
    Wow. When I read things like this all I can think of is the practical performance of the task of sacrificing that many animals. Where did they keep them all?

    David’s music continues on through the worship of the Lord.
    “And the priests attended to their services; the Levites also with instruments of the music of the Lord, which King David had made to praise the Lord, saying, “For His mercy endures forever,” whenever David offered praise by their ministry. ”

    God appears to Solomon and gives him blessings and warnings.

    I think of the warning to the nation of Israel and wonder if our land will be suffering because we have forsaken Him.
    “Then they will answer, ‘Because they forsook the Lord God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and embraced other gods, and worshiped them and served them; therefore He has brought all this calamity on them.’ ”
    As believers we are secure as individuals in our salvation through Jesus, but as our nation forsakes Him it is no wonder that we may see calamity. I am thankful knowing that His Spirit lives within me.

  2. After Solomon dedicated the temple fire came down from Heaven and consumed the offerings. Imagine the sight of everyone putting there faces to the ground saying he is good. His love endures forever. He appeared to Solomon again and said my eyes and my heart will always be there. If his rules are not followed and they loved other God’s is why he brought disaster upon them.

  3. It is always good when God affirms what we have offered to Him, especially in the obvious way He does here. In response to Solomon’s prayer, God’s glory fills the temple. In response to Solomon’s extravagant offerings, God sends fire to burn them. In response to the way that Solomon has dedicated the temple and in direct answer to his requests, God speaks to him and let’s him know that He will answer the people when they cry out to Him. God was listening and He sought to bring His favor on His people..even if they strayed, He makes a great promise to forgive and heal the land when they humble themselves before Him. And yet He also makes clear if they continue to walk away and follow other gods, He will bring calamity upon them. They do respond in praise when God reveals Himself in power and glory, but the key is obedience and preserving in following Him. May we learn from their negative example in the balance of their history and continue to be faithful to Him.

    I don’t believe the promise and the curse that is here applies to America in the same way as it does to the Jews as well as God’s people throughout history. We as believers are God’s people, but America is not and never has been. We were founded on principles that God could honor, as He would honor them in other countries as well. God can bless and curse believers in the way described here, and the nation can be blessed and cursed by extension…but God does not have a covenant with the United States of America…just with the believers within it.

  4. God is so good and for Him to directly respond to Solomon and His people here rewarding their obedience and affirming all that had happened is so incredible. He also continues to guide and instruct and warn of what happens if they forget these moments and milestones and the places God has brought them out of and start to go out on their own and turn away from Him like we sometimes tend to do when times are good.
