David Again Spares Saul’s Life
1 The Ziphites went to Saul at Gibeah and said, “Is not David hiding on the hill of Hakilah, which faces Jeshimon?”
2 So Saul went down to the Desert of Ziph, with his three thousand select Israelite troops, to search there for David.….Continue Reading

  1. Once again David shows us the right approach for us to have against our enemies. We should not go against or seek to harm them, but leave them in God’s hands. Even more so with Jesus as our model who told us we are to love our enemies. And isn’t it neat that God provided the means for David to be so close to Saul and acquiring these items so David could pass the test and show Saul his heart and his faithfulness to him. And Saul is humbled, as most people would be, and sees himself and David for what they are. And God uses this to provide David a bit of relief of being pushed by Saul. May we be as willing as David to honor authority and be gracious when we have every reason to execute revenge.

  2. 1 Samuel 26

I am always taken by the respect and loyalty that David continually has for Saul and the wisdom he displays in realizing that Saul was appointed by God. In this he continually displays that it is not his place but the Lord’s to deal with Saul in His time. Truly an example for the Israelites as well as for us in our daily lives and interactions!

  3. In this chapter David shows both wisdom and patience. He does not want to take the throne through his own hand but rather wait for God to provide it. Another easy chance to murder Saul is presented but he does not take that chance. Another chance for Saul to truly repent for his behavior as well. Unfortunately, David knows that even if in the moment he is sorry Saul quickly goes back on his words to make peace. David is showing to be a man of his word and it is important for us to take this example and be people of our word, to be patient and humble and follow God’s timing even in emotionally charged situations.

  4. ”And indeed, as your life was valued much this day in my eyes, so let my life be valued much in the eyes of the Lord, and let Him deliver me out of all tribulation.” Then Saul said to David, “May you be blessed, my son David! You shall both do great things and also still prevail.” So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.“
    ‭‭I Samuel‬ ‭26‬:‭24‬-‭25‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

David is spared death but God doesn’t spare him tribulation. Of course, that’s his own fault, we shall see in 2 Samuel.
