  1. Saul shows some good qualities of leadership here. First when confronted with a problem he acts. Second, although a bit harsh, he motivates the people to become involved and even relies on his connection with past leadership to add credibility to his. Third, he employs strategy to to gain the victory. And lastly, when given an opportunity to get revenge on his enemies, he acts in mercy rather than retaliation. All things that are wise for leaders to take stock in.

  2. Funny that Saul is king but we find him at home working the fields when this terrible ultimatum is made against the people of Jabesh. He is not sitting in a palace and he is not even the first to know of the threat but he swiftly takes action. God grants them the victory and now everyone is more confident in Saul as king and even seek to kill those that doubted him. Saul does not allow that but rather uses this as a time to bring the people together and celebrate both the victory and success of a new king. Good start and good leadership.
