1 Peter 1 (NIV)

1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,
To God’s elect, exiles scattered throughout the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, 2 who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood:
Grace and peace be yours in abundance.
Praise to God for a Living Hope
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade............Continue Reading

  1. God has given us salvation through His son. God has given us a new life and a new mind when we believed. This new life should bring a faith that changes us. That faith will be tested and we will be like precious metal made beautiful through the pressure and the fire. We will endure and He will be with us. We must love the way He loves us. We must choose each day to live a life that will bring Him glory as He has done so much for us.

  2. “Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.”
    ‭‭James‬ ‭5:7-8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

  3. I love words like abundant Grace and joy. “Abundant”
even though we do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an (Again )inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith. The promises are incredible. We can only attain this by having faith and hope. None of this is in the world.
Funny he sees us like grass. But the word of the Lord endures forever.”

  4. Many Christians throughout the world really do suffer for their faith, although it seems not so much in America. I wonder, sometimes, just how “refined” my (our) faith really is. After all, we have our “living hope” in Jesus Christ who conquered death on the Cross to make us right before God the Father. As Peter says, strive to be holy “because God is holy” and to be more bold about proclaiming His name.

  5. This chapter is like Ephesians chapter 1. You could write a paragraph on every verse. Loaded with promises for being a child of God. Even angels long to look into these things. !!!! An inheritance that can never spoil perish or fade. In the meantime shielded by the power of God!! Holy Spirit is jumping as I read this chapter.

  6. This sounds like a thorough explanation of what it means to be born again, as Jesus told Nicodemus.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”

Our reservations in heaven are ready and will be revealed at the proper time.

This is also a great explanation of faith:

“In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, 8 whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 9 receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls.”

Our faith even while it is tested will result in praise, honor and glory. Even though we haven’t seen Jesus, we love Him, we believe and rejoice. We know we have reservations for salvation, eternal life in heaven.

  7. How great that we have been chosen by God (it was His idea) to be part of the family of God and for the purpose of obedience to Christ. How great to be born into a living hope (our theme verse!), a great expectation for the future, as opposed to the dead hope that the world has, and part of that hope is an inheritance that we have in Christ. It does make the trials we face worth it as our faith is tested and strengthened and we are better prepared for life and our lives are more glorifying to God. And if we think our salvation is not something to get excited about, the prophets were excited by the prospect of knowing what we know and even the angels are amazed at what God has provided through the cross of Jesus.

And because God has done all these great things for us, we need to prepare our minds for action. Our thoughts are the back drop of everything we do and what we become. We are well aware of the evil desires that well upside us and the empty way of life opposed to the things of God that the world lives in, but we are called to guard ourselves against such things and live in a way pleasing to the Lord. We are to be holy, set apart, because God is holy. It really is part of the package that comes with salvation. We are not saved to be more like us and disobedient, we are called to be more like Him and to be obedient. God has provided and sacrificed a lot to make it possible/happen. And this should lead us all to a greater love for one another. And even that is based in the imperishable nature of who Jesus is and what He has done….because everything the world has is perishing and hollow.

  8. This chapter talks about faith, belief and the joy we have for the gift of salvation. Through Jesus, we believe in God who raised him from the dead and glorified him so our faith and hope are in God. Our hope is set on the grace to be brought to us when Jesus Christ is revealed. Until then, we are to act as obedient children and strive to be holy as our heavenly Father is holy. Having sincere love for one another is a good place to start.
