  1. I did follow along while on vacation…in fact I read ahead a bit. But how wise Solomon was to choose wisdom instead of wealth and power. May we be humble to pursue what God desires rather than what our flesh or the world would encourage us to pursue. And yet God provides all of it for Solomon and that is reflected in the decisions he makes, the way he structures leadership in his kingdom, the knowledge he has and the wealth he procures. Now here in this chapter, he builds the temple. And what a sight it must have been. There was a time that I measured our building at LHCC and the length and width are pretty close to the footprint of the temple. The temple was a bit higher and more rectangular. But it struck me how lavish it must have looked with all of that gold overlay. It shows that God appreciates beauty and isn’t cheap. And the decency and order reflected in the temple should be shown not only in the structure of our building but in the way we conduct ourselves as well. We were very blessed to get the building we have and there were dozens upon dozens of people that sacrificed to make it happen and to maintain it as well. Our congregation is the church, but the building should reflect our worship of God as well.

  2. I would have loved to see the temple as the Bible is describing its dimensions and everything Solomon did you can just picture how beautiful it must have been.

  3. This temple certainly sounds like a spectacular place. Beauty wherever you looked, ornate and detailed. I love the reminder from God in the middle of this chapter that no matter how beautiful the temple His expectation was obedient people. You think of third world nations that have straw huts or tents that they worship in but they are still blessed people based on their heart to follow God and worship Him in whatever place they can. We are blessed to have a great building but we must remember the building is the building and our hearts are what God sees first.

  4. 1 Kings 6

It is worth noting that it took “seven” years to build the temple. Wonder if it was by design or coincidence.

  5. Psalms 9; Isaiah 59; 1 Kings 6
A foundation of stone, covered with cedar and other fragrant woods, and overlaid with gold with all kinds of elaborate designs carved into it.
I can only imagine what this building would have looked like and smelled like on the inside.

  6. When the cherubim are described I couldn’t help but think of Ezekiel and the description there of the strange creatures which are later identified as cherubim.
