1 Kings 21 (NIV)

Naboth’s Vineyard
1 Some time later there was an incident involving a vineyard belonging to Naboth the Jezreelite. The vineyard was in Jezreel, close to the palace of Ahab king of Samaria. 2 Ahab said to Naboth, “Let me have your vineyard to use for a vegetable garden, since it is close to my palace.……Continue Reading

  1. How wrong it is for the strong to take advantage of the weak. Ahab makes a selfish request that wasn’t wrong, but how self centered he was in his heart when he did not accept Naboth’s answer. And it is interesting that Ahab did not repeat what Naboth said about not wanting to give up his family inheritance, just that he wouldn’t give it to him. And he sulks like a baby. And how evil is Jezebel to concoct this plan. And how deceived and evil are those who carry it out. Where was the one to cry out, this is wrong and unjust. But both Ahab and Jezebel will get theirs. But how gracious God is to respond to Ahab’s repentant heart after all the evil he has done. But that is how merciful and forgiving our God is.

  2. Ahab and Jezebel – to this day, these names are used to represent the wicked. God hates it when his children are mistreated, abused and destroyed for the gain of another. He will not stand for it, and there will be consequences. But if the response is humility and repentance, the Lord will have compassion on them. Our God is a God of Justice and Mercy.

  3. This is like basic behavior 101…don’t take what isn’t yours. Ahab is acting like a spoiled child and not only does Jezebel not recognize that she helps indulge that behavior in the most evil of ways. Her evil heart, the help of evil people, and the evil ignorance of Ahab to just ultimately benefit from this plan and take what was never his is a very sad series of events. No surprise it is met which God’s anger and judgement. But so reassuring to see that God recognizes a repentant heart in Ahab even when we would think there is no help for someone like that.

  4. I was thinking that God is more merciful to Ahab than I was thinking He should be. Shame on me, God is a just judge and I am so thankful for His mercy.
