Solomon’s Wives
1 King Solomon, however, loved many foreign women besides Pharaoh’s daughter—Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians and Hittites. 2 They were from nations about which the Lord had told the Israelites, “You must not intermarry with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods.”……Continue Reading

  1. It is amazing how someone so wise could be so foolish. How foolish to take on additional wives (especially of the amount he did), but even more foolish was to let them influence him to follow their gods. As I said a few weeks ago, moral decisions always have theological implications. It is interesting how God mentions that He came to Solomon twice as if to say, how could this guy follow other gods when he saw Me? No idol compares to the true God of the heavens, especially with the evil practices of these false religions. Well because of this, as God promised, He brings enemies against Solomon. And I had forgotten about this meeting that Jeroboam had with this prophet that he basically tells him that he will rule 10 tribes. And God makes the same assurances to him that He did with David and Solomon. It is sad to realize that he will blow it as well. How important it is for us to remain true to the God Who we know, who has revealed and has saved.

  2. 700 wives and 300 concubines is an outlandish number! For all the wisdom he possesed it is amazing that he didn’t see the blatant foolishness of that decision. I mean if he had one or two even ten, but to think you wouldn’t get overwhelmed by the sheer volume of women around you serving other gods. Bad company corrupts good morals and this was a lot of bad company. We are called to share the gospel and we must around unbelievers to do it but to those we hold intimate time with especially in marriage we must be of one mind for God.

  3. I felt very sad when I read about Solomon forsaking the Lord for other gods. It does baffle me that being given wisdom FROM GOD and SEEING GOD TWICE, how could he turn away from the Lord? It’s like an addiction. And yet, obviously these decisions were volitional. I guess that’s how addictions start. The flesh is very weak.
