1 Corinthians 15 (NIV)
The Resurrection of Christ
1 Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, ...........Continue Reading
What a great chapter of Scripture. In the beginning of 1 Corinthians, Paul told them that he only preached “Christ crucified” sparing them many of the details because he had other things in mind. In this chapter, however, Paul seemingly pulls out all the stops. Christ indeed died on the Cross for our sins, was buried and rose on the third day thereby defeating death. Paul notes several appearances of Christ to the faithful following His resurrection as confirmation of the event. We are made alive in Christ by faith in His death and as such made acceptable to God.
The chapter concludes with an explanation of our resurrection bodies to come.
“When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: ‘Death has been swallowed up in victory’.” Amen.
Amen and Amen!!!
Read Corinthians 15. Have a headache. Just so beyond joyful that mercy has been given to me by God my father. Therefore when I die. My soul goes to heaven. A resurrected body comes later. However and whenever that all happens My father has ordain so it’s a perfect plan. I do know that this body cannot survive in heaven. We do need a new heavenly body. You will never catch me in a discussion about matters like this. Whatever pans out is absolutely perfect with me. My soul is intact! My heart breaks for so many that will be with the rich man in Luke 16. Please Lord help your church to spread the gospel to soften hearts. Please!
1Corinthians 14
“Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.”

Is this referring to the Jewish law ?
I believe so, Suzanne

The reality of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead is central to the validity of our faith. His body was never found. The apostles died maintaining the testimony of His resurrection and Jesus appeared to several, even 500 at a time, thereby showing that He was raised. And the blood flowing from His side on the cross showed that He was actually dead as well. And because He was raised, it is a source of confidence and overwhelming excitement for those who believe in Him, that we will be raised too. Oh how I look forward to the great exchange of mortality to immortality, the perishable to the imperishable, from this natural body to a spiritual body. And a salvation all based in faith and grace…He paid a debt He did not owe, I owed a debt I could not pay.
And yet 2 other nuggets are found in this chapter as well. Bad company corrupts good character/morals. As believers, we need to watch out who we hang with, but even more importantly who we allow to influence us. As we are called to share the gospel with unbelievers, we need to make sure we are not compromised in our character in the interaction. And the other nugget is the power of sin is in the law. It seems antithetical, but it is absolutely true. The law by itself stirs up a desire to disobey. It also generates pride and judgementalism. Our obedience is to be empowered by love and grace and the freedom that comes from the Spirit. It is a want to, rather than a have to….it is based in God’s power and not our own. We need to be very aware of how the law can creep in…and if it does, don’t be surprised that sin follows…

1Corinthians 14
Chaos causes confusion. If many were just speaking in tongues with no interpretation, the remaining people would end up confused and might walk away. Possibly for good. If someone has the gift of tongues, they must be able or have someone else be able to interpret otherwise there’s no positive encouragement or direction for those present.
I love how Paul begins this chapter with a reminder that we are saved by the gospel and the desire to remind them of it. As believers, we continue to benefit from hearing the gospel; it strengthens our hearts and faith to be reminded and meditate on what it is that Jesus did for us.
The core of our faith is Christ’s death and resurrection! The reason it all makes sense to us even though many try to disclaim that it happened. The truth of the gospel is the foundation and I feel like it has been so impressed on me lately in so many ways and this chapter was just another reinforcement of that.
The gospel clearly explained:
For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
Christ’s resurrection is what gives us hope in this life; that one day we will be resurrected too and will be with him in heaven. When this happens, our bodies will be raised in glory and power into a heavenly body. And some people will still be alive when this happens, and they will be taken up with the ones who have died. What a hope we have in Christ for all of this to happen to us! Without this promise of eternal life with Christ in a heavenly body, we have no hope at all. For this life here on earth is fallen and flawed. And this is a great verse to live by:
58Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
But by the Grace of God I am what I am. His grace to me was not without effect. Paul says I worked harder than all of them. but says not by himself but with the grace of God. He says the last enemy destroyed will be death. I like that just as we have borne the likeness of the earthy man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven. Stand firm and let nothing move you. Your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
Loved the comments of others on this chapter. I am blessed to have so many strong and wise people around me that share your thoughts on what is read.
