1 Chronicles 22 (NIV)

1 Then David said, “The house of the Lord God is to be here, and also the altar of burnt offering for Israel.”
Preparations for the Temple
2 So David gave orders to assemble the foreigners residing in Israel, and from among them he appointed stonecutters to prepare dressed stone for building the house of God. 3 He provided a large amount of iron to make nails for the doors of the gateways and for the fittings, and more bronze than could be weighed. 4 He also provided more cedar logs than could be counted, for the Sidonians and Tyrians had brought large numbers of them to David...........Continue Reading

  1. David is preparing everything that Solomon will need to build the temple. Solomon will ultimately see it come to fruition but not David. David is at peace with this knowing that his part to play would be done and someone else would see the rest of the plan to completion. Sometimes our part in God’s plan is different than what we expect. Maybe we are just planting the seeds and will never see them sprout but it doesn’t make that step any less essential. We must trust and follow God even when we don’t see or understand the final result.

  2. “Now devote your heart and soul to seeking the Lord your God. Begin to build the sanctuary of the Lord God, so that you may bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord and the sacred articles belonging to God into the temple that will be built for the Name of the Lord.””
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭22:19‬ ‭NIV‬‬

  3. David gathers the materials and workers for Soloman to build an house for the Lord.
It is interesting that God tells David that he cannot build it because of the blood that he shed. I don’t quite understand, since many of David’s battles were at God’s command and part of defeating enemies that plagued the Israelites. I guess it isn’t an indicator of how God feels about David or his standing before God, but only that he is not the man to build God’s house. I guess it makes sense that an house, a place of rest, should be built in a time of peace.

  4. I wonder if God is thinking of things David has done outside of His direction (Uriah being the most obvious) or whether God just wants someone with a different reputation to build His temple. But independent of the reason, God makes HIs will clear and both David and Solomon have their part to play. David shows his humility by supporting his son’s role rather than trying to subvert it out of jealousy or bitterness. We should be privileged as father’s to see our sons go further or higher than us. And David serves as a good model of all he provides and the direction he gives. How important is his reenforcement that Solomon follow God’s ways and adhere to the things that Moses laid down for the Jews to do. Solomon is not to consider himself exempt. He also surrounds Solomon with people who will help him in all facet of his rule. I was also impressed by the sentiments that God shares about Solomon as well. He would be as dear to Him as his father David was…and that’s saying something….
