  1. Obedience and seeking God first in this chapter gave David a much better result than his handling of the ark! David wisely went to God before each battle asking for the timing and direction and God gave them victory!

  2. David is recognized by other nations – Hiram gives gifts to build David’s house. David interprets this: “David knew that the Lord had established him as king over Israel, for his kingdom was highly exalted for the sake of His people Israel.”

David establishes a family(ies) with many children. These situations often make me wonder about polygamy and why it is basically accepted by God….even blessed by God. Would love to know your thoughts on that Pastor. God only seems to find it unacceptable when the Israelites marry women with foreign gods.

David has an intimate relationship with God, asking Him if he will have victory in battle. God even gives David strategy. We need to continually ask God for strategy.

    1. I believe it was always God’s desire that monogamy would be the standard that his people live by. It is certainly what he set up in the garden, giving Adam only Eve and not a multitude of wives. Polygamy is also never encouraged or commanded although it is not corrected in the way that we might imagine either. But whatever treatment it receives in the Old Testament, Jesus certainly upholds the standard of monogamy and even reenforces it by including as wrong what we think sexually of the opposite sex. The value of monogamy is certainly seen in how many Western cultures have embraced it for millennia….just how long that will last remains to be seen…….Hope that helps

      1. Thanks, Pastor. I was thinking that we really do still have polygamy in Western culture…it’s just that people only have one spouse at a time, but with divorce and remarriage, one could have multiple marriages throughout their lifetime.

  3. 1 Chronicles 14 David asked for God’s guidance before he would make a move he did what God advised him to do and came out on top each time.

  4. God reenforces His favor on David by granting him favor in the minds of others as well as favor in battle. He recognizes it as affirmation of the position God has given without letting it go to his head. He shows his humility and dependence to seek God’s counsel before going into battle. It is neat to see the balance of giving David freedom to use his military prowess to win one battle, but then God giving him strategy and miraculous support on the other. A good reminder of a couple different ways Did works in our lives as well.

  5. Oh, and another thing, David certainly reaps the world wind of trouble by having multiple children through multiple wives.
