Psalms 90-91 (NIV)
A prayer of Moses the man of God.
1 Lord, you have been our dwelling place
throughout all generations.
2 Before the mountains were born
or you brought forth the whole world,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
3 You turn people back to dust,
Psalm 90 starts with many comparisons of our finite and weakness to God’s eternal, infinite, and all powerful nature. We work so hard to be good at earthly, temporary things when we should have an eternal mindset. Verse 12 said “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” and that seemed to be a plea to be able to cast off that earthly mindset for that of God’s where we see the larger more eternal implications of our choices.
Psalm 91 left me with the song stuck in my head for sure but those words are so encouraging all that God is for us! A refuge, a comfort, a caretaker….we put our trust in Him because He is all of that and so much more than any man could be to us!
Psalm 90 & 91
11 If only we knew the power of your anger! Your wrath is as great as the fear that is your due.
12 Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
“He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
He shelters us from all kinds of calamity.
Psalm 90. Moses the author. Awesome prayer. Who God is and who we are. Vs. Our sins are laid out before him. Life is short and our time should be used to glorify our father. At least ask what do we want to see happen in my life before I die. Psalm 91. How many times have we used these words to knock out fear. To dwell in the shelter of the most high and rest in the shadow of the almighty. Refuge and my fortress Cover you with his feathers and under his wings you will find refuge. Are there any better comforting words in scripture!! If that’s not enough. We have angels sent from God to watch over us. Because he loves me. I will rescue him I will protect him. For he acknowledges my name Absolutely my favorite psalm one I will cherish all of my life.
Psalms 89
Psalms 90&91 Psalm 91 is a picture of the peace and comfort we can find in our Lord just picturing yourself in his arms he is my refuge and my fortress, Verse 11 he will command his angels concerning us to guard us in all our ways. 14 Because he loves me says the Lord, I will rescue him: I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. 15 He will call upon me and I will answer him: I will be him in trouble. One of my favorite psalms!
In Psalm 90 Moses is asking God to teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. I am reminded of in Ephesians chapter 5 verses 15 and 16 where Paul is reminding the believers to walk carefully not as fools but wise redeeming the time for the days are evil. Then in Psalm 91 we are reminded that we need to dwell under God`s security and protection. To seek His refuge and trust Him for He is able to deliver us from snares.
What a privilege to have God as a dwelling place and understand Him for who He is. Although our rebellious nature doesn’t like to come under His authority, we are best off if we do and yet God is also justified to deal with us in a way that is fitting to what we bring to Him. It is wise for us to be circumspect about how we live and how we regard Him in the things we do and don’t do. It is much better to be gladdened by His blessings than corrected by His discipline, but both flow from who He is and what we need. And if we ever thought we could do better without Him, Psalm 91 is a clear reminder of all the things He provides for us, all the protection He affords and all the capacities He enables. How wonderful it is to come under His care and receive all the benefits that come from that. He has not promised us a rose garden, but He has promised to be with us through whatever we face and we will find Him faithful.
Psalms 90-91
Return, O Lord!
How long?
And have compassion on Your servants.
Oh, satisfy us early with Your mercy,
That we may rejoice and be glad all our days!
Make us glad according to the days in which You have afflicted us,
The years in which we have seen evil.
Let Your work appear to Your servants,
And Your glory to their children.
And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us,
And establish the work of our hands for us;
Yes, establish the work of our hands.
Psalm 91 – He is my refuge, my fortress, my God in whom I trust. He will save me from trouble, he will cover me with his wings and I will find refuge in him. He will even command his angels to guard me and protect me. And he does this simply because I love Him and acknowledge that he is Lord. When I think back about the times in my life that were most difficult, I can see God being faithful to the promise of this psalm. It strenghtens my faith and trust in him and it makes me praise him with a thankful heart. No matter what happens, as long as God is with me, I am going to be ok. I can be sure of this ….he is not far from each one of us, for in him we live and move and have our being. Acts 17:27-28
Amen, Shelly!
