Psalms 56-57 (NIV)

For the director of music. To the tune of “A Dove on Distant Oaks.” Of David. A miktam. When the Philistines had seized him in Gath.
1 Be merciful to me, my God,
for my enemies are in hot pursuit;
all day long they press their attack.
2 My adversaries pursue me all day long;
in their pride many are attacking me.
3 When I am afraid, I put my trust in you............Continue Reading

  1. Such comfort in David’s songs but also so much direction for us as far as our participation in the relationship we have with God. He will provide but we must be active in that relationship not just lazy waiting around for His provision and protection. David tells us just in these 2 short chapters so much we should be actively doing. We must trust, worship, bring offerings, praise, and remain steadfast! We need to cry out to God and look to Him in ALL things….I know I can’t do this life thing without Him!

  2. Psalm 56. I still find myself waivering between faith and fear. When I am afraid I will put my trust in you. Like Peter said. Where else are we to go. You have the words to eternal life. Even the hairs on our head is numbered. Alot more gray in the past few months. Like psalm 91. Psalm 57. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings. Love that picture. How many times David starts his psalms crying out to God to save him from his enemy’s about to kill him. And ends his psalms praising God for his faithfulness. Kind of how our minds work

  3. How great it is that we can turn to God in our troubles and find Someone who knows, who cares and who is able to do something about them. And how wonderful that we have scriptures like this that show clearly that God wants to hear our laments and be there for us in our troubles. Psalm 56:4 is a classic. When we feel like we are loosing something at the hands of some person, God always has something better on the other side….even if to say, in light of heaven and a spiritual mindset, whatever that thing was wasn’t really important anyway. And in Christ, that is not just wishful thinking, but to turn the other cheek, to give up our cloak because we are trusting God is the most powerful thing we can do. We are privileged to be part of such a kingdom and have a God who is so merciful and powerful. He is a great place of refuge, not only consoling our hearts, but providing a means of escape. And it is with Him that we find the peace in the midst of the storm….

  4. 56: Here is that theme in my reading yet again, do not fear.
    “Whenever I am afraid,
    I will trust in You.
    In God (I will praise His word),
    In God I have put my trust;
    I will not fear.
    What can flesh do to me?”

    57: David proclaims truths about himself and proclaims praise to God.
