  1. Several points/reminders for me;

    THe angel rolled the back the stone in real time in front of the guards and the two Marys.

    He rolled back the stone not to “let Jesus out”, since He had already risen, but to let the Marys in to view …

    the Scripture point out that this was done in front of the guards, and their reactions;

    The guards were still guarding the tomb… so His body was not taken by disciples, as some claim… and the angel, not men, moved the stone…

    2And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. 4And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men.

  2. Matthew 28:12-15 (ESV)
    12  And when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a sufficient sum of money to the soldiers 13  and said, “Tell people, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ 14  And if this comes to the governor’s ears, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” 15  So they took the money and did as they were directed. And this story has been spread among the Jews to this day.

    I suspect the penalty for saying we were asleep on our watch was death for these guards, but this was the best lie they could devise. These guards saw the angel roll back the stone. They knew the truth but this still did not wake the elders and religious leaders to the truth of who Christ is.

  3. Ah the power and necessity of the resurrection! It needed to happen to validate the claims of Scripture, to validate Jesus’ own words that He had said that He would rise, and to show that Jesus was in fact the Son of God. And it is one of the greatest thing that validates our faith in Him. We can be confident that if Jesus could have been found, then He would have been found. There were too many forces that were threatened by what HIs resurrection would show. The chief priests reveal there own trepidation about it here as well as ij the last chapter. They feared it before it happened and after it happened and did all they could to avoid it and stamp it out when it happened.

    And just in case we would wonder just what Jesus would want us to be doing, making disciples would be at the top or close to it. When you couch a command in, all authority has been given to me. you have to figure that what He says next is pretty important. And what a comfort to that He will be with us always, to the very end of the age. That is one of the truths that flows from having a Savior who is alive!
