People shouting praises for Jesus entering the city throwing things down for Him to walk over. The King entering humbly on a donkey! These same people will soon cry to crucify Him but for now they see Him as the prophets wrote. Funny the subtle reminder Jesus gives that our idea of man driven fame isn’t important to Him, when asked about stopping the people from cheering His reply is that if they don’t praise then the rocks will. His majesty is everywhere, His wonder far exceeds man, and His authority greater than anything on this earth….He doesn’t need us and yet He still wants us, pretty crazy!
Jesus knew exactly who He was and what He came to do. He knew how provocative this would be to ride into Jerusalem on a donkey and what it would mean to those who got it, both friend and foe alike. And He accepted the praise that came from people and on some level planned the events that were happening. And when these actions rubbed the Jewish leaders the wrong way, Jesus just affirmed who was by saying praise would continue regardless. And what a telling statement He makes about Jerusalem, knowing full well what He was offering them and what would come to them because of their rejection of Him. How could people not see what we see so clearly about His person, purpose and mission. But they didn’t and don’t. And they will be lost on so many levels because of it.
