Lent 2026 – Day 24 in the Book: “The Life of Jesus“
The Week Jesus Dies
Read Sections 5.52 through 5.53 (pages 177-179)
This book is an account of Jesus’ life and teachings told in chronological order from the four Gospels to create one continuous story.

I keep thinking about Jesus’ prayer, “Father forgive them, because they don’t know what they are doing.” That is certainly true here. They think they are managing Jesus, but Jesus and God are really managing them. But imagine members of this same crowd praising Jesus days before, but because of the manipulation of the Jewish leaders, they now cry crucify Him. And Pilate still tries to convince the crowd to do otherwise, but Jesus tells even him he really has no power here. And yet, even though they are doing what God and Jesus want, they will still be held responsible for their decisions. I do wonder what has come to the Jewish people because they said, let HIs blood be on us and our children. Scary words, especially for a people who knew God punishes sin to the third and fourth generation…
Lent day 24
Who’s really on trial here. All that Jesus goes through. Way beyond the normal punishments. And he stays composed. Pilate and the Pharisees are nothing but pawns in God’s plan of salvation. One of the most powerful statements in all of scripture: Pilate said, don’t you realize I have the power to either release you or to crucify you. Jesus answers you would have no power over me if it would not given to you from above. The religious leaders finally: the truth comes out. It had nothing to do with Jesus, causing a rebellion. They say they have a law and according to that law Jesus must die, He claimed to be the son of God.

Lent 2026 – Day 24
Chapter 8 in the ‘DONE’ booklet (first couple pages) describes Jesus’ horrific treatment in great detail. Just reading it makes me cringe and wonder “how could that be?!” It’s just too hard to believe…..and thats when my faith kicks in. And the beautiful reality of my salvation. All that for you and me!
Started reading “Done” today, approaching it as if read by an unbeliever.
Keeping up, and concur. Kinda struck by Ciaphas saying it was better for one to die for the people, seeming now to implicate the necessity that there can be only one sacrifice for Israel. I don’t think he had the spiritual depth to understand it was for redemption. Odd that this would strike me in this season. -gy
Lent 2026 – Day 24
“The only power you have over me is the power given to you by God” This was all part of the plan. The ridicule, the lies, the torture, the pain, and the eventual death on a cross—all part of the plan! Hard to read, can’t imagine for those that were close to Him and loved Him how hard it must have been to actually watch. Each horrible step in this process was done for me, unfathomable grace given to someone so undeserving. So grateful to be so loved.
It is very concerning to think of how easily the crowd is swayed by false information and lies, we can think that managing information by the government would prevent this, but no, it is the government entities, the rulers that are perpetuating the lies and creating the false narrative. Jesus remains silent. Of course, God knows the truth and has a sovereign purpose in all that happens, neither individual man, mob nor governor, nor king, has any power or ability to change it.
Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” This is a stark example of how we are expected to behave towards others who have hurt us. One of the criminals gets it right, and becomes one of the first converts. He acknowledges Jesus as King who will be coming into his kingdom and he ackowledges that he did wrong. Then Jesus promises him the gift of eternal life. “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” And that is what this is all about, belief, repentence, forgiveness, and salvation granted to us through Jesus Christ.
