Job 34 (NIV)

1 Then Elihu said:
2“Hear my words, you wise men;
listen to me, you men of learning.
3 For the ear tests words
as the tongue tastes food.
4 Let us discern for ourselves what is right;
let us learn together what is good.…..Continue Reading

  1. When Elihu speaks of God he is right in some things but in others completely wrong. It is true that God can do anything that He wants and doesn`t answer to anyone. But when he says such things as God will over turn the wicked in the night He often times won`t do it right away but sometimes it is quick. God has His own time and purpose for each thing. He doesn`t always do things in the same way. Jesus is this in the New Testament. He often healed people in different ways. He is a God of variety just look at how he made us. God could snuff us right out if He so chose which is true. verse 14,15 Again he is wrong about Job walking with wicked men and having open rebellion against God. He is accusing Job of not repenting of his sins. Again coming with the wrong assumptions because Job is suffering he must have sinned. I know earlier in my walk with the Lord I felt that if something really bad happened to a believer they must of had sinned and needed to repent. I don`t mean little things but terrible things. I got saved when I was 20 years old and now I am 70 years old. God has brought Melodye and myself through many, many, many terrible things so I don`t believe that anymore. And of course scripture supports that God will allow terrible things to happen to a believer like the example here in Job. Not always because of sin. But with us we found that Satan had a open war against us. Not that we have ever been without sin but often when we were fully committed to serving Him. And it was from many fronts at the same time. I don`t fully understand it for neither one of us are of any importance but in that light we know God considers us important for He died for us and we have the indwelling Holy Spirit within us. May the Lord richly bless you all.

  2. Job is a good study for God tells us why in the beginning of the book of Job why He allowed these things to happen to Job. Not always because of sin but actually has many reasons. I just wanted to say that during those terrible things that God allowed to happen to us that He also gave blessings. God bless.

  3. Job 34: Elihu sounds like….no wait, I sound like Elihu!

    I too often think I have “my finger on the pulse” of the issue, and every one else is just plain “ig’nert”!

    This comes from my haughty heart.

    Elihu, vss 35 to 37 presents a scorching indictment against Job. Wow! Words w/out knowledge or wisdom? Break Job’s teethe for answering for (defending?) wicked men! Heaps rebellion on top of his sin? Claps his hands among us (meaning, implication not sure, maybe expressing disagreement publicly?), multiplies words against God? Really? Scathing!

    Haven’t read ahead…-gy

  4. Elihu does well in describing who God is and recognizing Him as the One over all. Every aspect of life is in His hands and has His eyes on all humankind. He brings rulers to naught who defy Him and judges between the righteous and the ungodly. He also determines when He is silent and when He speaks, when He acts and when He doesn’t. But Elihu does a bad job of describing Job and wrongly accuses him and in stark and insensitive ways. Job 34:35-37, as Gordon says, is a stingy indictment. Everyone will see in the end how both right and wrong Elihu is.

  5. Elihu continues giving his opinions of Job’s situation and attitude about it but is still a bit too confident in his ability to understand God and His ways. He is now trying to speak to Job’s heart in his cries to God and accuse him of blaming God. It is true as Elihu explains that God can see our hearts and our deeds without us confessing, Elihu is presuming to know Job’s heart and we unlike God do not have that ability. Just another reason for us to be sensitive to God’s voice when dealing with people in our lives and to be sure we are not jumping to our own conclusions like Elihu is!

  6. Elihu speaks truth about God, but speaks falsely about Job.
    We should think about how we judge God and judge men. We shouldn’t “judge” God, but read His word and learn what He says about Himself. We shouldn’t judge men in ignorance. It seems like Elihu and the others are judging Job based on assumptions….we shouldn’t do that either.

    Can’t wait to hear from God.

  7. Elihu judges Job based on the terrible things that has happened to him. He must be suffering because he has a wicked heart. We must not assume that because someone has fallen on hard times, they did something wrong and God is punishing/correcting them. We do not know the mind of the Lord and why he allows these things to happen. “Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?” Romans 11:34
