  1. God shifts His focus of Judah to start to deal with the nations surrounding Judah and begins with Egypt. God’s care is not just for Jews but for the Gentiles as well. His love, mercy, and even correction spreads to ALL people. He wants relationship with all people and now it is time for Him to make that point known to the other nations.
I do love that He is always leaving reminders of His original promises about the land and the protection of Judah and how He will eventually restore them all.

  2. The God of Israel is also the Lord of the whole world. No nation is beyond His observation as well as dealing with them according to His ways. Israel and Egypt had a long history with each other and recently people of Judah had sought refuge there and worshipped their gods instead of believing God’s promise. For all that Egypt had done wrong in not coming to God, they too will be punished by Babylon, in spite of all the efforts they would take to be victorious. God will also show them that He is superior to their gods. And yet in the midst of all that, a promise to Jacob (the people of Israel), that they will be restored to the land. Although He will discipline them, He will be fair in His dealings and he will always do what is right. What a privilege it is to know Him and have Him as the overseer of our lives!
