Every head is shaved

  1. Judgement on Moab was necessary, however, Isaiah does express some sadness upon this prophecy. Moab certainly was distantly connected to Israel and was at one time under God’s protection, however, the sins of later kings of Moab were too great to escape judgement.

  2. Moab was Lot’s son and Lot was a nephew of Abraham, thus establishing a familial connection with these two peoples. Moab did not seek God and followed false gods and therefore they would not be protected as the tools of discipline flow through this geographic area as God deals with His people. So as God is disciplining His people the people of Moab are being judged. Their destruction and the resulting lamentation is described in this chapter and the next. Isaiah cries out for them because he is aware of their familial connection and is saddened to see their destruction and their weeping. It is fitting for us too to weep when God brings judgement upon the world and upon people’s. Human suffering should always generate compassion in us as we seek God’s will for how we might come alongside and help.
