Isaiah 13 (ESV)

The oracle concerning Babylon which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw.

On a bare hill raise a signal;
    cry aloud to them;
wave the hand for them to enter
    the gates of the nobles.
I myself have commanded my consecrated ones,
    and have summoned my mighty men to execute my anger,
    my proudly exulting ones.

The sound of a tumult is on the mountains
    as of a great multitude!
The sound of an uproar of kingdoms,
    of nations gathering together!
The Lord of hosts is mustering
    a host for battle.
They come from a distant land,
    from the end of the heavens,
the Lord and the weapons of his indignation,

  1. Babylon, a powerhouse in this time of world history as well as the ones who will be used by God to discipline Judah and exile them. But God will humble them. V.11 gives the reason…”I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins, I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless.” It is both a warning and a promise if things don’t change. But the power of Babylon is nothing compared to God. And for those of us who are victims of the wicked and prideful, we can take comfort that God will deal the same with them. But vengeance is his, to be executed in His time and in His way.
