Reading along with us in Genesis? Here’s today’s reading:
Genesis 36 (NIV)
Esau’s Descendants
1 This is the account of the family line of Esau (that is, Edom).
2 Esau took his wives from the women of Canaan: Adah daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Oholibamah daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon the Hivite— 3 also Basemath daughter of Ishmael and sister of Nebaiot……Continue Reading
Genesis 36-37 & Galatians 1-2.
Read a little ahead into the story of Joseph.
Joseph is close to and loved dearly by his Israel. He has dreams which spark jealousy and hate amongst his kin; his brothers conspire to kill him but end up selling him to the Egyptians for 20 shekels; and lied about it to their Dad.
Also dug into Galatians because I want to engage more in Paul’s wisdom. I read James letter yesterday which seems to push the works of faith, where in this reading Paul is cracking down on justification through faith in Christ only and the new creation.
Genesis 36
Big families!
Well now, hhmmmm, who is Edom? Lol!
What a genealogy! Impressive, Esau recieved the fatness of the land and dew of heaven. He shall serve his brother, for a space of time, but will eventually break his yoke from his neck. He shall live by the sword. (27:39-40). In the end, Edom will be no more. It didn’t have to be that way, Dennis, gave us hints. I’ll be careful to follow the significance of Edom and Mt. Seir. -gy
Gen. 36
Genesis 36
Esau is Edom. Good info to remember as we read history and the encounters with the Edomites.
It is interesting that we get a little story to clarify who Anah is.
”These were the sons of Zibeon: both Ajah and Anah. This was the Anah who found the water in the wilderness as he pastured the donkeys of his father Zibeon.“
Genesis 36:24 NKJV
Genesis 36
Genesis 36
Genesis 36
Genesis 37
Chapters like these are good ways to remember that the Bible is so much more than stories, like many people today want to believe, but rather a historical account. Chapters like these give us the opportunity to track the historical accuaracy for all the doubters.
Genesis 37-38
I couldn’t help thinking of all the people that come from one man and one woman through various generations, and then when you multiply wives, this is what you get. It is interesting to consider as well why the kings of Edom are mentioned and that may be because Edom was one of the nations next to Israel, they were also related to Israel and the sworn enemy of Israel.
