I am unfamiliar with Gog and Magog. I read that some people think it might be modern day Russia. But God allows them to invade Israel, again using man’s own evil choices for His ultimate plan. God will stop them and this battle will be God’s in the form of an earthquake making light work out of what sounded like a very strong and large army. God is always in control!
God tells Gog king of Meshech and Tuba. They became very strong but God had plans to destroy them at a later date when things are quiet and peaceful and at this time God wants them to come against his people so he, God can destroy Gog. He had said he would do this.

In the latter times nations will come against Israel. God tells us who some of these nations are. As listed in this chapter are Magog [ Russia ] ,Gomer [ Germany or at least that area . ] ,Persia [ Iran ] ,Ethiopia , and Libya [ next to Egypt ] . If you were to look at a world map today you would find that these nations surround Israel. I think that this is a short list of nations that will come against Israel. Of course God will intervene for Israel. God will send earthquakes, pestilence, and with blood. He will send great hailstones,fire, and brimstones. God will also cause nations to fight each other. God will do to magnify himself among the nations. Thank God that we have a all knowing God that shows us the future through His Word.
It was interesting to see that Gog here is an individual prince who will gather nations against Israel and seek to take advantage of those who are peaceful and vulnerable. Independent of what nations they are, God will put them in their place. God wants Israel to know that a more powerful nation is never in control, regardless of their numbers or their weapons. It is God who is on control. And He does not have to rely on traditional means to fight, but will bring battle from the sky and from the earth. He will overwhelm them rather than they overwhelming Israel. And God is always the defender of His people, regardless of what time frame of human history they find themselves in.

And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. When Gog attacks the land of Israel, God will take action against them so much so that the nations will know that he is the Lord.
