  1. Shocking that a ruler would order people to kill their own sons! Clearly we are far removed from Joseph’s days were Pharaoh clearly saw God work through Him that they would have no fear of the Lord’s wrath.
Good for the midwives that did fear God and refused to do such an egregious act!

  2. Fear and paranoia are bad reference points for decisions, especially for those in leadership. And after all Joseph did for Egypt, it is sad that they forgot about him and the blessing the Jews were to them. But is spite of the plans the Egyptians had to control/minimize the Jews, Gos still blessed them and prospered them. It just goes to show that man cannot thwart the plans fo God. And to think God will even use this whole scenario to raise up a leader to do a powerful work the will be remembered even to this day.

And bravo for these midwives who were courageous to not follow the evil rules set down by a godless king. May we find the same courage to do things that God calls us to regardless of what others things or the negative repercussions that will come, as well as have the faith to believe God will supply even when the world is against us.

  3. The Israelites are saved from starvation, but end up in servitude in Egypt. It is interesting to think that the Hebrews built the pyramids and all the great structures of Egypt perhaps.
Even in slavery God preserves His people and they multiply and are abundant and become the dread of the people of Egypt.

“But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were in dread of the children of Israel.”

  4. 17The midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys live. 18Then the king of Egypt summoned the midwives and asked them, “Why have you done this? Why have you let the boys live?”
19The midwives answered Pharaoh, “Hebrew women are not like Egyptian women; they are vigorous and give birth before the midwives arrive.”
20So God was kind to the midwives and the people increased and became even more numerous. 21And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own.
22Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people: “Every Hebrew boy that is born you must throw into the Nile, but let every girl live.”
