  1. John the Baptist is such a compelling figure. He was dedicated to His mission and had great courage to confront people in their wrong ways and correct them, and yet be humble enough to always remind people he was just preparing the way for One coming after Him. May we be more like him and Jesus. And Jesus comes to be baptized by him and God shows up in a powerful way. Then Luke gives a genealogy of Jesus going back to Adam..the son of God….when Jesus too is the Son of God, in a far more complete way. The difference between the genealogies in Matthew and Luke is sometimes explained that Matthew gives Joseph’s genealogy and Luke gives Mary’s. Both coming from the line of David, as Messiah would, and far more important for Mary to have that lineage because there was none of Joseph’s DNA in Jesus’ body.

  2. All the leaders in Palestine at this time like pilot Herod and caiaphas. We’re up staged by what God calls the greatest man to ever live. A man preaching the gospel in the desert who told these religious leaders that they needed to be baptized and to repent, to change their attitude. many people today speak the words, but there’s no change in lifestyle. I love the point that John makes telling these religious leaders because they have Abraham as their father they think they’re secure in God‘s kingdom, but John tells them security in God‘s kingdom cannot be inherited and cannot be handed down from parents to their children. It has to be a personal decision.

  3. John preached repentance and righteousness with God. He told them to practice generosity by giving to people who had no food or clothing. To be honest in all matters, have integrity and be content with what they had. John was not afraid to speak truth about what happened to the wicked, and to point out the evil that Herod had done. He also spoke about the Messiah, with humility, a person who was much greater than he. He sacrificed his life to pave the way for Jesus, and he set the stage for his entrance upon the world.

  4. Luke 3
John the Baptist’s commitment to his role in God’s plan is astonishing. If only my commitment was that pure.

  5. The ministry of John the Baptist was truly a powerful one. His ability to speak truth in love and make God more as he made himself less is something we can all learn a great deal from. He spoke of being humbled and repentant but also of basic human kindness. Treating others fairly and with care and compassion. But always pointed people back to God, never looked for recognition for himself.

  6. “John answered, saying to all, “I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”
    ‭‭Luke‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
