2 Samuel 17 (NIV)

1 Ahithophel said to Absalom, “I would choose twelve thousand men and set out tonight in pursuit of David. 2 I would attack him while he is weary and weak. 1. So the solid counsel of Ahithophel is rejected for the poor advice of Hushai and not because Hushai’s was better, in fact it was not, but because God is in control! So often we say God will have His way in a whirlwind and that is exactly what we are seeing here. So many players and problems but step by step God is directing each move. Even when David hiding and afraid probably does not feel it, he trusts that he has prayed and asked God to help and God is answering. A good reminder that just because we feel like a situation is hopeless, when we seek Him He can make all things possible in His way and His timing.

  2. Well Hushai does what David asked him to do and frustrates the counsel of Ahithophel and God helps in the process. And David’s plan to have messengers bring him news also works and allows David to flee in safety. God is working throughout to protect His anointed and to bring down the evil and divisive Absalom. It is comforting to know that God does the same for us in frustrating the plans of those who are against us and providing for us. And it is sad that Ahithophel takes his life but it shows that he was not in the right place seeking God and His will. I had the thought why did he not just go back to David if his counsel was rejected by Absalom. But it just goes to show, that we start walking down an evil path, what ends it will then lead us to.
